So I have been away from the forum for what looks like 100 or so pages now. Anyway, I'm looking into picking up another # 4 since my original is busted pretty good. Iv'e read that they are no longer making these and are only selling the 4-1 now? I read some of the differences between the two but should I look for some old # 4 stocked away or is the new 4-1 a good heli? Also, the #4 - 3 looks like a great little micro. Anyone have one on here?

Won't the extra weight hurt performance (not that I'm worrying toooo much about that yet but maybe soon...)? I think I can get music wire from the LHS.

    Chuck

It would be marginal if the weight does affect it. If you are using a lipo I wouldnt expect it to make that much of a difference however it will save plenty of flybars.

The only difference between the 4 & the 4#1 is the head design and the canopy. To change the head to the version 3 design you just need the HM-4#1-Z-01 & HM-4#1-Z-02 oh and two small screws that hold the flybar on as Walkera do not provide these

However in saying that there is a new 2.4G 4G1A & 4G1B that has just been released from Walkera, they are a new designed head and the "B" version has a metal head.

Have a look at this post > http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7461826/tm.htm

Brett, do you know when the 4G1 will be available? It looks like the frame might be different.

I use a dremal to cut the carbon rod.A hacksaw will work but go around the outside a little.May keep it from splintering.Wire cutters will not work.

What attachment do you use to cut with? I've only used mine for drilling.
    Chuck

To cut carbon fiber rod, I use the Dremel Cut Off Wheel Number 409. They are sold in a 36 unit package. I cut a small dado in a piece of wood to hold the CF while I cut it. And I put a wet paper towel underneath to catch the carbon dust when I'm cutting. It's still a bit messy so I do it out in the garage.

I think the original screws were Phillips head, but I replaced them with 2mmx6mm cap head hex screws. Much easier to get in and out with a hex wrench.

...Is it worth breaking the originals before I put them on or do they protect other things? I only ask because I just got the training "wheels" on.
    .....Chuck

They do help with other things, but if you just got set up you may as well wait until you break something. You might want to pull off your tail fin and glue the SuperSkids 'tail saver bead' on, though. It'll stop the tail rod from snagging.

    Thanks, Gary.

I have the 4#3. According to the guys at the OTHER forum, I was too new to learn how to fly on it & they said get a biiger one to start with which is why I'm here. There are new versions of the 4#3 coming out (metal head, 2.4G) so you might want to check over at RC Groups forum.

    Marc,

Thanks for the info. That looks pretty easy. I'll pick up some blades this weekend.
