When my tail rotor has failed in the past, it was very noticeable. I've replaced it 4 or 5 times.

But I never replaced my main motor, even though I kept a spare on hand waiting for a failure. Over the last few flights, I've noticed reduced flight times. At first I thought it was my batteries. But when I put a meter on my LiPo pack, it still had plenty of voltage. So I replace the main motor. I must have been slowly losing performance because the new motor has much more power and significantly longer flight times.

Just thought I'd pass this on to any other new flyers that are still running the original motor. It may be worth the $8 just to change out the main motor and regain your original performance.

Here's a link to speed 400 motors that are miles better than the stock ones and last alot longer!! I definatly would not use the walkera ones anymore. They dont last long at all.

I dont know if you folks have seen this XTREME motor:

    http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=695

The brushes are replaceable, which means it will practically last forever!!

I just installed one the other day. Power is great, and time will tell how long the brushes last!

    drobin,
The EM300 looks like a good match. Do you know if the mounting holes are the same as the stock motor?

The mounting holes are the same but for the cost,I would give give the one from USHOBBYSUPPLY a look at.The cost is less than 2 motors and should last almost forever with replacement brushess.

When replacing the motor, should I stick with the 10T stock pinion gear? A 9T would give me lower revs I assume. Is there any advantage one way or the other?

Sorry if this topic has already been discussed, but I wasn't able to find it in a quick search.

I have used both and didn't notice any difference. But most of my df4 time was (and still is learning).I think the 9 tooth would be fine.
