    Hey Atomic Flyer,
Mind if I ask you a question about the #4?
I had the motor die on me a couple of days ago, so just replaced it this morning. It was an exact copy of the original bought from a nearby hobby shop. The only thing I had to do was solder on the diode and caps etc, which came with it. I carefully copied the original when soldering but forgot how the power leads went, white or pink lead orientation. I thought I had it but soon found out the hard way that it wasn't right. The motor (and blades) went backwards for a second, then the receiver issued puff of smoke and it was all over. Sadly now I have to fork out $45 for a new one, but want to know for sure how the leads are attached.
Could you put me on the right track before I risk fritzing my new receiver?
    Thanks

    Hi Smokey,
Sorry to hear about your receiver. As they say, once the smoke gets out, it's really hard to get it back in.

As you may have figured out, your problem wasn't really that the motor was running backwards. But instead that you probably had the diode reversed so you had a dead short from postive to negative. That allowed too much current to run through the electronic speed control, hence the smoke. The white line silkscreened on the diode is the cathode side and should be hooked up to the pink wire.

    Good luck,
    Marc

    Hey thanks Marc,
I had the diode in the right physical place according to the original motor - but I suppose having the wrong wire (white) attached to the wrong side (white line end on diode), ie switched, would have the same effect as having the diode switched around? Now I am much the wiser, only feeling quite stoopid.
    Thanks again.

Hey guys! I noticed many people, including myself are complaining about short flight times. I've probably had a max of 20mins from a flight with a good motor, pitch setup and battery combination but has anyone heard of the new Nanowire technology. It is apparently revision of the Li-Ion battery and has 10 times the capacity of current batteries, also the weight is similar to current Li-Po's and maybe even less. Can you imaging flying on one of these packs, 10 x the capacity, thats like having a 10 - 20 amp pack crunched into a small and lightweight battery! wow man. Suppose a 100C current draw rate?
Wonder if this is all legit?

    Hi All,

I am going to try the 22e motor for the tail rotor. I have just received it (US Hobby mailed it Saturday and I am on the West Coast, they must know someone in the PO) and the gear is separate. I have mounted it using blue thread lock as there are no instructions with the motor. Should that not work, any suggestions on how to lock a gear to a 1mm shaft?

Blue locktight should work just fine. I did mine that way and have not had it come loose yet.

    Michael

I have about an hour on the gear and several crashes and it is still holding strong. FYI, we are having a major fire about 10 miles from us. All of the radios and other transmiting devices are really affecting the receivers on the Helis. You can turn them on and just watch the servos twitch. The 22e we are discussing will suddenly accelerate for about 1 second. This, of course makes any flying impossible.

Glad to hear that the locktight is holding strong.

Sorry to hear about the fires. I grew up in Los Angeles and love the SB area. Real pretty. Reminds me of the time I got pulled over for doing 110mph on the 101 in Ventura. Talked my way out of a ticket though!! It was 3 in the AM and I dont think the cop was interested in doing any writing!

3 AM and only 110? If I could get my avatar to show you could see what I sometimes get up to over 100. What needs to happen to show one's avatar?

Yep, that would do it as well...

Hey smokey,my 4in1 pooped itself and as Ive had probs with WK rx/tx before Ive decided to grab a new HBFP to see how they hold out instead of replacing the 4in1. Sooner or latter you WILL need the little pots in the tx and seeing they are no good to me yell out when ya need some cause you can have my tx.

    Hey Bro,

That's very generous of you!! I wil certainly think of it when I notice the degrade.

Hey I'm still noticing quite a lot of erratic behaviour even after replacing the receiver. I have tried my Esky Belt CP and it doesn't get bothered by any interferance. I don't think I can spend any more money on the # 4 as it ia costing me way more than it is worth.
Any ideas on what it could be? The tail motor is erratic and it jumps all over the place, no even hovering?
