Hi, I am using the standard walkera#4 bearing (z-12) for the head. They seem to fit just fine. The conversion is going fine, just a little slow due to time constraints! lots of chatter about the darn xtreme HBK2 blades!

Joey,
BillMay is a great resource. The posts he suggested are great resources, especially the RADDS link. Follow that thing to a tee and you will progress. Of course, you got my #, you can buzz me anytime!

here is a pic of the upgrade in progress,

Looks great Michael. I'd like to know how much the total weight is when you're done.

Actually, Michael is the great resource since he can supply you with parts and provides the best service there is in this, and any, industry. All I can give is advice. Just remember, my advice is free and you usually get what you pay for![:D][:D]

Michael, can't wait to see that finished heli and hear how it flies!

USHobbySupply -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/1/2008 12:27:34 AM)

The heli is finished, but I blew out my 4&1, so I'm down until i can locate my backup (or more 4&1 stock arrives). It flew very nice though and I am very happy with the conversion. I will post a list of Esky parts and XTREME parts need to complete the conversion soon.

I'll be interested in that parts list. I've been too busy with my CP helis to do anything with that 300 class fiber frame I got from you. Might be better to put these parts on it rather than using my Falcon 40 stuff. Do you have any experience with doing the belt drive tail conversions on these FP helis? I think it's the Freestyle website that has some conversion kits.

Bill check out this belt conversion kit its a bit cheaper then freestyle http://www.heli-fever.com/

AtomicFlyer -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/2/2008 7:20:54 PM)

Well, I finally got my brain wired (almost) to be able to hover nose-in. And it only took me 7 months! Guess I'm a slow learner.

To celebrate, I made a video. [:)] And if you stick through the 1 minute hover, you'll be rewarded with a good crash scene!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDf1lIoGEQ

Now off to the local park, and a little more room, to practice forward flight.

Actually, the frame itself looks like the one I have. Too bad they don't seem to sell just the belt drive upgrade for it. But you're right, that is about half the price of the Freestyle upgrade and this includes the whole frame! Thanks. (maybe we can get Michael @ USHobby to try it[:D])

Great job flying. Looks like you have your heli very stable. It appears to do a great job of tree trimming as well![:D] Hey, I've been at it longer than you, have moved up to CP helis, and still only do tail-in hovering!

hello

i'm new to this forum and the world of r/c helicopters.

About a year ago i entered this world and bought a Walkera Dragonfly 4.

Unfortunaly (and many crashes later) the helicopter is still yet to hover (lol). But i'm now on the mood to try it again :D so i decided to make some upgrade to make it toughter and more stable. I will begin by buying some SuperSkids and then i was thinking to buy a new pair of servos, a new battery and a now motor, but i'm out of ideas.

Can someome help me out by indicating what are the best mods for my chopper? I'm really a n00b at this and i want to learn more

Thank you all

Hi Rui,
I'm not the most experienced guy around here, but it sounds to me like you are on the right track. Here are a couple more ideas:
1) Put on training gear. This is an "X" made from carbon fiber rods with ping-pong balls on the end. It gives a much wider platform so the heli doesn't tip over and if installed correctly it will provide a spring for landing on.
2) If your servos work, buying new ones won't help you much in my opinion.
3) A LiPo battery will help you learn to hover just because you can get one with twice the capacity for the same weight.
4) Balance the rotor blades. Until I learned how to blance well, the heli would tear itself apart from vibration.
5) Get a big enough area to practice so that you aren't hitting the walls and furntiture.
6) Practice, practice, practice
7) When you've achieved your first hover, tell us about it here. Because we'll be impressed but your wife won't. [:D]

Bill,
I've decided to sell my tree trimming saw and just buy a bigger helicopter. [:D]

i have just one more question, i dunno what type os LiPo i'll have to buy, can you indicate me a good one?

thank you

Riggerbill -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/5/2008 3:35:13 PM)

Michael: When in a hover the tail starts spinning to the left. Iclose the throttle and the tail keeps swingingleft. Of course I crash. I noticed that somes the machine does not respond when opening the throttle- After several tried it will respond. All wires are plugged in properly. What could be causing this? Help anyone. drobin -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/5/2008 4:02:40 PM)

It sounds like the tail motor is going. They don't last long. Also make sure the tail blades are pushed all the way on.

I am running 7.4V 1300mAh batteries. They weigh about the same as the original batteries (about 80g) but give me twice the flight time.

whyme26 -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/8/2008 5:12:31 PM)

Hello all.. question for you. I have a #4 with a broken rotor head, at least I think that's what it is called (I'm kind of a newbie here, so please bear with me). I'm embarassed to say that I didn't even break this part due to a spectacular crash or anything ~ thank you wife for knocking it off my desk [:@]

Anyway, this #4 is an older model... I think I've read somewhere that they changed the design in 05? Mine would be an 04 then? Does anyone have any idea where I could find a replacement part for this older design? I ordered one from xheli that looked to be the right one in the picture on the web site... It showed up today and just my luck it's the wrong one [&o] (second time I've gotten the wrong one). Is this part still available or is there something I can do to make this new one fit?

Thanks for any help and info!

Kind of odd, I still can't fly this little beastie to save my life, but have really gotten into modifying it. to date:
new servos, painted canopy, liPo power, bigger motor, heat sinks front and back, like 90 blades, t-rex landing gear.
next on list: learn how to fly!! shorten antenna, wireless video camera?

drobin -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/8/2008 5:55:04 PM)

Go to UShobbysupply.com.He will have the parts you need and he is great to deal with.Fast shipping and great prices.

MASJO -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (8/9/2008 10:50:19 AM)

I thought i'd put my 2 cents in. I am a beginner to intermediate pilot. I also have an HBK2.

I am using a 11.1v 1000mah lipo. No problems with the extra power source and no failiers. A home made battery box has been attached to house the 11.1v lipo and homemade battery adaptor connector. Power is instant providing faster head speed, controlled decents and stability with flight time ranging to at least 25-30 mins. Blades are clipped by 2cm. Skid stands have been shortened by 7mm placing the under carriage closer to the ground allowing for a lower center of gravity when landing. Homemade vertical and horizontal fins. Homemade stainless steel head stiffner. Homemade pitch and blade balancer. Homemade navigation LED kit made and installed 12 August o8.

This heli is a beauty and withstands a hammering from multiple collisions. All onboard electrics are stock.

Lots of fun and a great heli to learn on. Heres a couple o pics.

Also posted a short vid. wdf4_land on car_letterbox_tent.wmv : http://www.rcuvideos.com/item/TY9F07FY362ZWB3Z

Since posting the above info and pics below, I have completed my WDF4 brushless upgrade. Interested in viewing a Full step by step photo upgrade, click the following link to my personal RC website. Video link on the second page.

Hey

I finally got a snap of my Modified 4#1. Walkera 36 skids (rock solid and very durable), 22E Vert and Horiz stabilisers. Antenna fed from rear skid strut to horiz stabiliser..excellent for reception and when pulled fairly tight looks like stabiliser rods.

Other Pic is a HoneyBee CP2 which was upgraded with a combination of 36 and 22E parts. I'm taking a chance talking ESKY here but I think the upgrade cam out pretty cool and seeing that I used walkera spares makes it only half as bad. Sorry I hope I'm not upsetting anyone here?

before you sell it try the 3 cell lipo i put it in mine and it is the difference between night and day 1/4 throttle is more than enough to make this puppy hum. the additional weight did not bother it.

is the 10.5 inch SuperSkid Aluminum Tailboom for this heli any good? My stock carbon one is a little cracked and I'm sure if I buy another one it'll just happen again. What do you guys think?
