clp.eng -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/2/2008 1:28:11 PM)

Marc,

Looking at the way the parts broke, I'm wondering if they couldn't be repaired? Drill a small hole in the remaining "shoulder" & CA in a piece of CF? My whole head sheared off, so there's no fixing it! If you're going to toss the broken parts, let me know maybe I'll buy them from you & try to fix them myself!

I thought about the Blade 400 for a few minutes but with winter coming on, I don't think that is an indoor heli!

Let us know what you think of the new bird!

Chuck

seadog-chief -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:05:30 AM)

[8D] 4-1 parts are available on Ebay including swashplate and rotor head. [:D]

five-string -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 1:42:51 PM)

I would like to hear from anyone who has actually used the new aluminum head parts. I am breaking fewer parts these days and am wondering if the metal head would add stability.

I still love this little heli.

3 CELL LIPOS? I read a few pages back that some guys are running 3 cell lipos!?! Aren't you burning up tail motors? I would like to try it but am afraid of toasting that little motor or the MOSFETS. I already have the 10A inline fuse on the main motor.

USHobbySupply -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 1:49:03 PM)

I run mostly 11.1 (unless i forgot to charge it, then I run 7.4). If you are not crashing as much (as you indicated), then 11.1 is a good choice. I have run the 11.1 on modified and unmodified 4&1's and have not burnt any up. I love the extra power. You do go through tail motors more quickly though.

Michael

five-string -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:11:36 PM)

Thanks, Michael. And Howdy again. I bought my heli from you two years ago and flew it for the first time since January yesterday. I lived up near you in PA and have moved to S Georgia. Now I have year round flying weather. Neener neener.

I may try a 1000mA 3S lipo but I'll be holding my breath as I am still running the original motors (with heat sinks).

USHobbySupply -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:18:00 PM)

Hey Five-String,
Glad to see you back in the hobby! Congrats on the move (i think), but definately for the improved weather! My wife wants to move where it snows more, if you can believe that! Dont worry folks, I told her no.

A 1000mah 11.1 is a nice size for the #4, good trade off in weight and performance.

Michael

clp.eng -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:34:09 PM)

Hey Marc,

How's the new heli? Have you checked on how many of the parts from the 4-1 will fit? I got a boat load of spares (motors, blades gears, etc - except head pieces!). I saw the airframe only & would consider it if all the other parts fit! Let me know.

I also am wondering if anybody successfully got the new metal (or plastic) parts from the Walkera 4Gx to fit the 4-1. I'm still crashing a lot & need a reliable source of spares!
Seadog,

Thanks for the tip. I'll checl ebay again, though the shipping tends to make their small stuff very expensive. But it's that or I gotta' buy another d@mn heli!

Chuck

USHobbySupply -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:46:37 PM)

I would think that you could convert it over to a #4 (first version). Head, ring, blade holder and such. Those parts are readily available. I would be happy to work with you to make a complete list.

Michael

drobin -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/4/2008 2:57:26 PM)

Michael, if your wife wants to move where it snows more, come to Syracuse. We average 114" a year.120-140 is not unusual.And 30 miles north of us, Owsego, Fulton area can get 200-400".You can check that out on any weather web site.

Here's what I'm supposed to have at my door on Monday:

http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=W262062&pid=W289468

My plan is to move my servos (I'm using TowerPro 9G) and 4-in-1 over to it from my Walkera. I know the head pieces won't fit (or I'd be buying them for my Walkera!). But I should be able to use my spare main and tail motors, main and tail rotor blades, supply of 2mm CF rod, 3 900mAh Li-Poly batteries and probably canopies. I've read that I might even be able to use my main and tail shafts and gears.

I've checked around and it looks like many people stock (and have in stock) parts for the Honeybee FP. I think there is a much larger user base.

And if things work for me, I'll send you all my busted rotor heads for the cost of shipping only. [;)]

Michael's offer to convert you back to the first version head might also be a viable alternative as I've seen most of those parts stocked.

Marc

Seadog-Cheif,
If you find the rotor head on eBay, can you post a link? I wasn't able to find any for the newest version head that I'm running. And my heli is a dog in forward flight unless it is really light, so I don't want to go with the metal head (and extra weight that comes with that). I like plastic.

That's what so frustrating about Walkera and the 4#1...They gave the same part number to completely different version of a part that are not interchangeable. [8|]

Thanks, Michael! I'll keep that as a backup plan. Please send the list, I'd like to price it out.

As a Walkera delaer would you ask them if they are going to support the 4-1 any more & let us know?

Good luck, Marc & keep us posted. I might follow suit.

However, I exchanged emails with an ebay seller who said he would have more rotor heads in about 2 weeks. "Fact or Fiction"? I can't wait 2 weeks. As frustrating as these things are I was really enjoying the challenge & the little progresses I was making. Boy I need to get a life!

five-string -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/5/2008 12:45:16 PM)

Michael,

I would also like to know what it would cost to convert to metal head parts.

And you haven't said what you think of the aluminum heads. Do you have any experience with them? Would they add anything to performance? Obviously, they are stronger. But that could mean more expensive repairs after a crash, like bent/broken shafts, motor mounts, etc. Something has to give on impact. It would show where the next weakest link is.

Hi Chuck,

We have done the conversion have a look at the thread here > http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898138&highlight=4g1b
There are quite a few pics to look at also.

Chapino4 -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/11/2008 6:51:05 PM)

where you bought the blades?

clp.eng -> RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum (10/11/2008 9:08:41 PM)

Hey Brett,

Thanks for the update! A couple of questions though:

1. Was the upgrade done on a stock 4-1? Motor, battery, etc? did you try it with a 7.4v LiPo?

2. Do the 4-1 original blades fit & fly with the aluminum?

3. Did you ever make & post the video? The pictures look good!

4. I'm still real new to this heli stuff (10-30 second hovers before crash or hard landing). I know you're a dealer & I probably shouldn't ask but at 45 bucks I have to! Is this going to be worth it at this stage in my flying career or should I keep looking for the original parts? I notice you're store is out as well

5. Do you know if Walkera will be sending you any more 4-1 head parts (blade holder & the piece it snaps onto)?

I'd really appreciate your feedback! I've been down 4 straight days & my hands are shaking!! The CX2 just doesn't cut it any more.

Thanks.
Chuck

Hi Chuck,

The heli was a stock 4#1 apart from the superskids and superboom. Running a 7.4 1300mAh lipo.

The original blades fit the 4G1B blade holders if you have the 4#1 blades with the small plastic washer inside the holes. If you dont have the 4#1 blades then you can use and old piece of boom to make them up.

I got a little lazy and never made up the vid however probably should.[:D]

I would not recommend going for the metal head until you can at least hover a full pack. The plastic parts have some give however the metal head will bend if you have a large crash into say concrete.

Is it worth it compared to the stock v3 head, IMHO I would say yes and have had a lot of feedback that it does perform better than the v3 head. Oh and there is the bling factor of course..[X(]

There is a shipment arriving Monday so everything will be back in stock then.

Yes we are a dealer however fly the heli's also, Ill try and give an honest answer as above.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers

Brett

Just thought I'd follow up about the Honeybee FP that I bought. For me, it's a perfectly good replacement for the 4#1 and spare parts are much more plentiful. There are some things in the head design I don't like as much (the 4#1 has a flat spot in the head and shaft to take the load where the HBFP only has a pin). But overall, it's a fine bird and gets me flying up and down the street in front of my house again. Yeeha!

Also, I bought the Walkera 4#3B which I love. This tiny heli is my new favorite since I can fly it afterwork inside now that it's too dark to go to the local park to fly my Blade 400.

Here's a short video of the 4#3B in my living room:

Marc

p.s. Chuck, PM me if you still want the broken heads from my 4#1.

Marc,

Nice video and nice flying. I rate it 9 out of 10 rotor blades. If you'd have chopped the rose, I'd have given it a perfect 10 [:)]

Has anyone replaced the fets on the 4in1? If so where did you get them from? I smoked the main motor fet the other night.

Swew, let the guys at work beat on my little 4 3b tonight... Pummeled it a few times; still works fine. I don't even have words for how impressed I am with this thing.

Brett,

I haven't done it myself but here is some info from the forums:

"Main motor output MOSFET

NDS8410A
Fairchild Semiconductor SOIC-8 30V N-ChPowerTrench Single MOSFET

#4 it's mosfet part #4410 Fairchild or equivalent. Those mosfets are $2.00 through Digi or Mouser. 'IRF7413-ND' MOSFET from DigiKey.com"

Sorry I can't give credit to the original authors.
