I'm afraid we did not build washout into the wings. However, we will deflect both ailerons up slightly to simulate washout and use flaps on landing, which should help reduce the plane's tip stall tendency.

Hello Richard,

I've got one of these kits still new in the box. Been meaning to get to it for years now. I doubt I'll splurge for a YS but maybe a Saito 100 or 125.

Have you guys done anything different or are you building them lock, stock, and barrel?

Thanks,
Mike

We added exhaust outlets on the sides of the fuse and oil cooler intakes in the wing roots. We also mounted the retracts in scale position.

Details please... I'm in the process of installing the Robart retractable tail wheel. After that out comes the scalpel for the exhaust outlets.

I will try to snap some pictures of the exhaust outlets for you sometimes this weekend.

Richard, I just bought a Top flite Bearcat already built. This looks like a 1/8 scale plane with slightly longer wing than scale. I think I'm going to scratch build a cowl for it and get rid of the non scale factory cowl. What does your retract package weigh? Sounds pretty beefy, might survive even some of my landings.

I haven't weighed the retract package, but I suspect the entire air system is around one pound. The Robart 551RS retracts are pretty stout.

I see no indications of anything other than 0deg on all surfaces. 2 deg down thrust. I can snap a photo of my plans if you wish.

I don't see any incidences on the plans, so it's best to set the rear stab at 0 degree relative to the wing.

Here are the F8F instrument panels I scratchbuilt from 1/16th balsa and store-bought decal sheets.
The kit decals were too generic to resemble the real thing. Canopies are on and all interior cockpit work is done...
On to primer and panel lines!! Also I am having a friend tig weld some scale exhaust pipes which can be mounted to the
firewall and exit in the scale position. These are not functional, but will look awesome.

Mark is pretty close to maiden his. Maybe in a week or two. He still needs to airbrush the charging bull on the side of the fuse, burn some more rivets, and apply clear cloat.

Fly smooth and fast, that plane will snap if you look at it wrong. Makes real nice wheel landing; though, they will get out of control on roll out if your not careful. Do not yank on the elevator for any reason and keep the cg where the factory states or you will be in deep stuff. My plane is only 7.5 pounds so I'm assuming yours will be worse. Fun plane but don't exceed its limits.

Hi, congratulation for your Bearcat.
I have a question, I bought today a Bearcat in red box, it has a plan and all woods but I can't find the manual, this plane has a manual for buildding instructions?

My regards

Yes, this plane has a 4-page manual, I believe, for building instructions.
