A new public beta version of RealFlight G3 is now available. This update fixes a number of bugs; the complete list will follow.

This version is currently available only on the public beta site, although we believe it to be a stable version, and we plan to make it an official public version in the near future. If you experience any of the problems which the revision list below states are now fixed, we encourage you to try this new version. Note that if you have not yet installed the heli update, this version will be a large download, since it includes the heli update.

Perform the following steps to obtain the update:
Start the RealFlight G3 Launcher
Click Additional Options, then Technical Support
Click Enter Tech Support Code
Enter the following code: B#e3j3ea45h598 (If successful, you will see a message saying "You are now registered to use the Public Beta site until the new version is posted to official download site.")
Go back to the main Launcher menu and click Registration/Updates
Make sure that in the bottom left corner it says Temporary Public Beta (PS). If not, try reentering the code
Either click Update to Latest Version (which should tell you that .387 is available) or click Update to Specific Version and choose .387.
The Launcher will need to restart partway through this process. Answer "Yes" when it asks if you want to continue downloading the new version. When this process is finished, you will have RealFlight G3 version .387.

Please post and let us know whether or not this new versions resolves the issues described below. Also, please let us know if you find any new bugs (that is, bugs that did not exist in version .366).

Revision list

Are you ever going to fix the weird plane names that come up after restarting sim? These are plane's that don't exist. Also after installing update Heli's don't work. #1on list.

Performed the update and am now unable to launch the sim. After installing the update, I was prompted for the G3 Heli Update CD which I do not have. I put in the original G3 CD. On launch I am getting the following error:

Error: D3DERR_invalidcall
file: M\releases\2005_dominion\kelib3\directx\dxeffect.hpp
Line 604

The only way out of the sim is to CRL-alt Delete

Same here!

KnifeEdge has already pulled the update because so many are having problems.

I had to install fresh from the CDs...back up with .366 now, and all addons.

Yes he did. The workaround is:

If you have .313 CDs, have already updated to .387 and are receiving an error when you attempt to run, please follow these instructions to get around it:
Download the RFV3HELI.dck from here. Note that this file is approx. 100MB in size.
Copy it into your C:\Program Files\RealFlightG3\Data directory.
Delete your C:\Program Files\RealFlightG3\Temp directory.
Now, you should be able to run without any errors.

We apologize for this situation, and will work to fix it as soon as we can. We will keep you posted.

Wow, nice list of fixes.
Like others, I got the error messages after the update.
However, after updated install procedure - all is working well and I am enjoying the beta update!

Thanks,

Jim H.

I got mine working no problem. I can hover the Extra in AD#1 finally and it feels a lot like my Wildhare maybe just a little "smaller" feeling. Between this update and the planes on Rick Delten's site I'm loving G3. I now need a faster video card so I can run trees and objects but that stuff is secondary to having realistic planes to fly for me. I have been working on point rolls for the last week and when I went out to the field everything translated exactly and my flying was much improved in that area so trees and everything are not nearly as important as flight physics.

Having tried some other sims I was disapointed with some of the planes on G3. The snapping and "heavyness" made them hard to fly. I watched someone stuff an Extra the other day with a G62 on a smaller airframe and realized that a lot of the G3 planes are just realistic, a lot of planes out there fly like crap. The Rick Delten downloads all fly like 40% planes which is great but if you want to learn not to crash your old Kyosho Cap232 a snapping simulator is the best practice.

Keep up the good work!

A top-notch gaming system is required to utilize G3 to its fullest. You may turn-off features to run on lesser systems. The snappiness of the planes makes better pilots. The "feel" of G3 after you get used to its quirks, is closer to the real-deal than other "floaty", "dreamy" sims I've tried. YMMV. It WILL make you a better 3D pilot. There is so much to explore with G3, you'll be hard-pressed to fly every inch of it. A favorite of mine, is slope-soaring with 3D airplanes, at idle, and of course, 3D flying. Keeping G3 instead of selling for AFPD was the right thing for me, after flying AFPD. Even with the sim sped-up, it just felt too "floaty" and unrealistic for me, as if invisible helium balloons were tethered to the aircraft. YMMV

Favorite airplanes in order:

Edge 540 (3D mod)
Hangar 9 46% Ultimate
Yak-54 (3D throws/surfaces)
P-51 (Miss America)
A-10 Wart Hog
P-38 Lightning
L-39

Basin:

I just had to try the Extra...that thing is a torque-rollers dream! Very nice TRs! Prefer the Technicoll colorscheme. If many planes have been reworked like the little Extra, they are headed in the right direction!

Off to fly other planes...

jaffiit, when you said to copy the RFV3HELI to a temporary file and put it back after downloading the update do you mean cut and paste or copy? If I copy and move it it's still there and when I put it back I will be asked if I want to overide the existing one? Thanks,
Bud

Bud,
Go back and read the directions again, you don't copy it to a temp file.

I did as the instructions said yesterday before you edited it...I copied the helidck and replaced it after downloading, the file size was the same and RF ran fine but what if anything did it do to the heli file? When I overrode it with the one I put in a temp folder did I lose any of the heli download?

Hi!

I tried entering the code but

1. I cannot enter smallcap characters.
2. Nothing happens; I still get very old official updates.

Anyone knows what could cause this?

Thanks in advance.

jaafit,

with .387 and multiplayer / trying to Join I get the following error:

Error creating effect G3terrainred

ntdll.dll
offset 00001010
mod ver 5.1.2600.2180

or

it completely locks up.

Any idea?
