Hi, Had trouble in a 40 size. switched over to JR 821 and no trouble even in 90 size planes with JR 821's. Gears are not holding up in 635's. no trouble with any other Hitec servoes.

I have several of the 635's in 2 planes. A U-Can Do 3D and a Cap580. Never had any trouble with mine and they have several flights on them. Maybe your setup or application of them is wrong. I have not heard of any problems with them. Will have to keep an open eye.

Good Luck

Ed

Read the rest of the Posts. I'm not the only one. As I said I've not had any trouble with any of the other servos that I use fron Hitec.

Well i have had about 15 to 20 flights on this F-16,,, but the OS 91 causes alot of vibration,,, well at first till i found out it was the spinner,,,,but there is still considerable amount of vibration in general on the plane,, but the SERVOS in question {hs 635} well i:M not too interested in loosing my F-16 to some servo failure,,,i would be willing to spend 33 buxx(per servo) to save my jet.

Hey Gibbs!
I've used the 635's on my 10-1/2 lb AW Edge 540 (Saito 1.50) without any problems, but I'm not 3-D'ing it either. I do think about those servos being in the plane, and I check it often, but so far so good. It's my only glow powered plane, and since it's under Hitec's weight recommendations, I feel pretty secure. I still fell the burn from buying a bunch of them as 605 replacements though.
Have a great New Year!
Sam

Way down here in NZ we quietly refer to Hitec gear as `Hicrash'. If you don't care about what you fly it's good gear. I remember test flying a proud fellow modellers first model and his new Hitec gear when the power switch fell out of the tranny fascia. Stayed on the wires but. Another experienced modeller fitted `1/4 scale' servos to his 1/3 scale Pup elevators, you know, the ones with the same size spline drive as standard servos, and where the disc hold screw reaches all the way down to the servo output bearing. Yeah, he rebuilt the thing but it came down real close to me and I was flying too so had limited evasive options. Another proud owner said he had used his gear for so long now it has had `three programme upgrades'. Oh, and my ancient JR388 hasn't had one yet...In case you think I am biased, you might be right, but when it actually happens to you then the offending equipment brand tends to leave a shadow of doubt. I personally don't trust the stuff.
Evan.

You guys that like the JR DS 821, check out the threads in the JR forums. It looks like JR bought the junk right's to manufacture karbonite gears and they are failing now too. JR is saying the same thing that Hitec did. Don't use loctite and only put them in a plane you think will not overload the servo.
I have several brand new ones, and do not know if i should trust them. There are sveral people claiming the shafts are failing in .50 size helicopters.

I wish I'd have found this thread a while ago.... I run 5 of the 635's in my CMPRO texan. I've done 15 flights and just stuffed the servo on the right hand aileron. As I race the Texan I'm seriously thinking that I need to replace all of the servos with MG type servos. OUCH. expensive exercise.
c'mon HITEC...come up with some metal gears for these things and get rid of this brittle karbonite crap.....

Gentlemen-

For locking threads you might try fingernail polish. I have used enamel (I prefer clear- but some of you might like something a bit more exotic) for years. I learned about the stuff when I was a weapons armorer and certain types of loctite would react to various materials on firearms. We started using fingernail polish because it does not react, stays slightly pliable, it's cheap, and I've never had it fail on a firearm or on a model. I have never used the lacquer based stuff- only the enamel.

Thats what I thought: replace the Carbon Gear Hitecs with Metal gear Hitecs...
So I put an HS 5925 MG on the Swashplate (Aileron) of my raptor 90 instead of the 6965.

Well the HS 5925MG didn't break Gears, it simply quit under full roll. There went another Raptor into the ground .

I had to get a replacement Raptor quick, so I bought one via Ebay which was equipped with all Multiplex Titan DIGI 4 Servos.
I had something in mind, that the Titan 4s are Hitec Servos with Carbonite Gear.
But there was no time for changing servos...
The Titan 4s held up for appx 30 flights under heavy 3D.
Today the aileron servo broke Gear in mid flight.
Of course the servo was not centered, so I was in a situation that I knew from my old Raptor crash.
This time I managed to get the rolling Raptor onto the ground with no damages other than the broken Carbonite Gear.
High adrenalin and a spiral with cutting the engine near the ground did the trick.

But thats it for me and Hitec.
All of them (and the Multiplex versions) will be removed from 3 Helicopters.
I guess I will exchange them with Futaba Versions.

Michael

I have had two of the 635 servo's go out on my Hangar 9 Hellcat. They were both ailerion servo's. I would not recommend this servo for any glow or gas engine model.

I just had a new HS325HB start experiencing glitches after about 30 flights as a Nexstar throttle servo. I took it apart and could not see any gear problems. The pot is the most likely culprit but it is enclosed. I reassembled the servo and performance was unchanged. Unforunately it is not worth the bother to get it fixed and my philosopy on things that break is I don't want another one. I have about 25 JR servos and 5 Tower or Futaba and none have gone bad. By the way , the York Electronics YTV servo cycler is a really cool piece of gear for $25.
