I've driven the Mega Maxx. The strato-Toro engine in combination with the 1/6 scale footprint and 4WD enables it to really rip. It's fast. I've jumped (and cartwheeled) it myself and it's tough. 2WD vs. 4WD is really about a difference in the truck's character and handling behavior. The 2WD version handles differently, does wheelies on command, and is fun all to itself. Below is a pic of mine, which was greatly influenced by Dr. Honda.

Great creative efforts all around!!

But.....

despite videos, I have to believe that the stock telescoping center drive shaft will look like a melted Twizzler after an hour or so of ardant bashing. My god....it's extended so much it looks like there's a 1/2" of overlap of the two parts. I twisted mine apart w/a measly .21 where there was a LOT of overlap/contact area.

I suggest you tinkerers dig up a REVO driveshaft (maybe even an outdrive), as the new curvilinear spline design can apparantly handle ANY engine without crapping out.

The center drive shaft was modded using standard Traxxas parts to be longer so the overlap isn't 1/2". It's held up just fine. The lower rear shafts going out to the wheels, however, look more like Twizzlers after many hours of bashing. They haven't broke yet. An hour in wet grass (no rear wheel traction/slippage) provided for plenty of abuse one evening.

Hi Guys,

Sorry this took so long... but I forgot about getting this posted. (I had some things that were more important going on this week)

But... here is the video of the Mega Maxx running. This was on it's first run... and it was stil in it's prototype stage. In the middle of the vid I loose the battery... and toward the end, I loose a driveshaft. Upgrades have been made since this video, and it now runs strong with minimal maintenance.

Enjoy.

Looks good.

I bet you need new springs though. Replace one red spring in each corner with a trinity black spring, and you will be fine. (like in eekflyer's pic) If you want to still do big jumps… you will need 50w to 70w oil in the shocks.

Oh… one last thing… don’t expect the plastic driveshaft to last very long between the engine and trany. (think steel CVD and grease)

ok so i got it all together, weeded out the glitching (no pun intended), an upgraded to LST rims/tires and to trinity black springs on the rear and 50 wt skock oil all the way around. but i noticed a small problem.... it dosent move
after a review of your tranmission conversion pics i noticed i was missing somethnig circled in red.

what is that piece and do i need it, is that why i have no drive???

anyway, thnx for the input in advance..

It's just a spacer to keep the gear in the right spot. When you flip the gears around... there is nothing to hold it in place. In the stock configuration... there is an E-clip to take up the slack.

they start as easy as..
prime...
choke..
run..
BASH....

but essentially it all depends on the engine.

1. Well you could move the tranny up and run a strait drive, take more manufatureing (SAS)

2. what is that camping fule you use?

3. For a 4wd gasser, couldn't you lower the tranny and motor mount/motor and run a strait drive to the tranny?

well the only problem with moving the tranny up is the drive shafts also move up.....
the rear shaft would hit....
as far as the straight drive... i have done almost that i have modified the tranny to where it is now consists of 2 shafts, 2 gears,
and 6 bearings. no 2 speed, no nylon gears...
as for fuel i use 87 octane and super tech 2 stroke oil....
and i am working on a possiple Flex drive shaft from a dremel that would hold the torq and rpms...

I know, i have a tmaxx too, but the prob. is keeping it 4wd without extending it more than 1.5in. to 2in. the gear idea is a good one, if they're all the same size, it won't change the raceio. I might do 3 gears so i don't have to do that diff thing in the frount.

Do you think UE steel cvds will be stong enough for this power?

I'm doing/starting the convertion this winter because there is nothing else to do.
