I was looking at your pics Nexzzt the whole thing looks pretty good. I reckon something you might wanna consider if you haven't already is extending the sprocket arm to a mount with a good quality bearing. That setup you have currently looks like it might over pressure the gearbox. If i'm seeing this picture correctly. You ****s too!!! I just got into this nitro rc stuff... and I'm already eyeing up weed wacker motors. hehehehe

I really like what that honda dude is making... pretty sweet stuff.

I don't have any pics yet, it's still in the design stages but I have obtained most of the materials and parts I need.

I modified my intake by cutting a new filter and drilling holes in the cover. The stock filter is very dense and doesn't let much air through. I went for a foam filter instead. I may be modifying the exhaust bit too. Luckily my carb has high, low, idle, and a couple other adjustments so I can compensate for having more air going through the motor.

Your right, but the problem at the time of starting the 4wd conversion was there wasn't enough room for the bearing support because of the steering components and centre transmission. I'll take another look at it now that I have it working the way I want and see what I come up with.

BTW, my girl friend gave me her old sewing machine. I tore it down and found they are a great source of parts. (6mm shafts, bearings, grub screws etc.)

Take a few snaps along the way and keep us posted on the build.

Im gunna chase down a new carb for my motor I think. Im not very experienced with these motors so I might post a pic of how the carb mounts and maybe someone here can help, maybe suggest a brand/model.

Modded gas tank for larger fuel line-
\
The engine-

Intake-

The work station-

Progress has been slowed to a halt until I buy some yokes so I can get the measurements for where to mount the engine in relation to the tranny.

Nice custom tamiya,i have ended up using the 700cc tank that came with the weed eater engine.
Do you think i should make holes in the air filter case is i will be using the car in offroad also?

I want to use the stock tank for ease of mounting. I have not done any testing with the new intake. I know the new filter will make a difference but I'm not sure how much difference the holes in the cover will do. I can only imagine it well help though seeing how dense the stock filter is.

Your truck is looking good! I am thinking of using the Ryobi 4-stroke converted to glow ignition. No flywheel, no oil sump, no magneto.

I want to make my own flywheel and modify the crank to move the clutch, flywheel as close to the engine as I can and lay the engine on it's side.

Any thoughts?

Got the yokes mounted. Unfortunately I discovered the engine spins counter clock wise so I will have to reverse the tranny now making the overall fit not as good. It was originally going to be pretty centered over the chassis, now the carb/filter will be hanging off the left of the truck.

Being a nitro, it has a one way design to the tranny, so it only transfers power to the diffs with the motor spinning one direction. the diffs get no power in the current state.

Edit: I simply reversed the one way bearing in the tranny and I now have the tranny engaging, but the truck is going to run in reverse. This is when I would have to reverse the diffs. Only problem is the truck I'm using has a diff cover molded around the gear, so there will need to be major modification to reverse the diffs unless someone has a better ides?

Flip the one way bearing around in the tranny. That's what I had to do with my savage tranny. Of course, this will mean you will need to flip the diffs also, as mentioned above.

Hmm, tough one. You can't flip the gears inside the diff casing?

The diff casing has a protruding area around the gear, so I can't simply flip the gear. It will not fit in the other side of the casing. Maybe chop off and swap the sides of the diff casing if the area they mount to is symmetrical enough. I will have to pull a diff out and take a closer inspection of the options.

Maybe post a pic of the diff case opened up. Or do you have a link to an exploded view of the diffs for your vehicle?

So, with your vehicle, you cannot flip the diff (case and all, not just the gears inside), is that correct?

Tore it down and discovered that the diff cases rotate inside of the mounts. Rotated them 180 degrees and voila. Such a relief. It was also nice to find that the diff gears were all steel, well greased and in excellent condition. I ended up adding some more grease just to be safe though. I think the weakest link is going to be my driveshafts. may need to upgrade to the mip's.

Yer, if you have any plastic for drive shafts they are going to get messed up very quickly (ask me how I know ). I made some metal center drive shafts and used MIP shafts for the wheels (still using plastic on the front wheels for now though, waiting for them to fail before buying replacements). Also, a few pages back it was recommended to me to buy spools to replace the diff gears as they can be another weak point.

Yes it does shift, I flipped the ring that controls the shift and adjusted it to suit the motor.

Your truck is coming together nicely.
