Mode One,
Can hardly wait for your pics and "test flight" results.
I am still moving ahead on my SE. The tailfeathers are just like my small electrics just using larger pieces of wood. They are going together quickly. Fin and Rudder are done. Working on the stabilizer now. The middle balsa piece for the stabilizer in my kit was cut about 1/16" too short. Will have to shim it in. Was yours cut too short also?

Almost so long ago, I can't remember, however, I think a basswood doubler goes between it and the T.E of the stab. However, it seems that this part was short anyways. I think I made a new one, or added shims like you suggetsed.

The Mall Show was great fun. It was the first time I actually got to see the model completely assembled, so was a treat from that aspect, also. I didn't win anything, for the model. However, it's the door prizes for these things that make it worthwhile and I really cleaned up! First I won a new Sullivan starter then a Sig Somethin' Extra ARF. Not sure if I'm going to hold onto the ARF or sell it on Ebay!

More photos, pre-painting. The wing tip photo shows changes I made to the tip. Dynaflite's design had radial tip pieces at the leading edge, I eliminated these and added balsa blocks at the tips, which have been faired to shape. The bottom of the wing tip is the same as Dynaflite designed. To rear of the fairing blocks are two gussets to stabilize the tip shape sheet balsa parts The front view was taken to show how much the top wing was dropped. If you can imagine the top wing another 1.5 inches higher, that would put the bottom of the wing, where the top is now. You can also see where I used sheet styrene with embossed rivit details to simulate the sheet metal cowling (bonnet, for the Britts). The 4 photos you see took about 1 hour to upsload. Yep, my phonelines are SLOW!

I am starting the second plane, I considered modifying the first one but then I thought "hey I enjoy flying it as it is". Yes I have had a look at the 1/6 build, that guy is way out of my class. Absolutley briliant model.

Although I have a Magnum .80 installed in the airplane, I just ordered a Saito 1.00 to power the plane with. After seeing the thing assembled and hefting it around a bit, I got to thinking the .80 just might not have enough smutz. I always wanted a 1.00 4 stroke anyway!

WHEN BUILDING THE FRONT STRUT MOUNTS FOR THE DYNAFLIT SE5A DID YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE DICUT SIDE PIECES NOT FITTING AND HAD TO MODIFY THESE PARTS TO MAKE THEM WORK, THE TWO ANGLED PARTS. THESE PARTS ARE CALLED OUT AS (SM)

Frank,
Since I lowered the top wing to a more scale like wing gap, yes, I had to modify them. My cabane struts are more splayed-out then as the kit was designed. I did use the original parts; but, I modified them.
Also Frank, I went back quite a ways and could find no responses from bhole74, where did this come from?

Mark, I dont think that he was actually replying to Brian (BHole). I think he just clicked reply where Brian had made a comment at the end of a previous page. Its an annoying feature that RCU has.

Still Building, I have decided to Rebuild the SE5a I have been flying for the time being, adding more scale detail and correcting the lines etcetera.
I have stripped down the fuse to allow a rebuild of the cockpit area. and am looking at the ways of attaching the upper wing in the lower position. Given that the wing struts are very firmley attached to the fuse I will probably modify the wing to adjust the mouting points rather than changing the strut angles as I would for a fresh build.
Good flying weather over hear except for the storms, the floods and the ongoing drought!
