hi Jim..

had I to do over I would lower the top wing also..But I took the project on as this was from a late modeller and the crash damage was moderate and happily it is done!wuth any luck I plan to fly it later this week. The polyester fabric is simple cheap and works equally as well as koverall or coverite.the previous owner of my plane was going to re skin the plane using olive drab monokote and while I wasnt going to use it due its shinny look I decided with all the other projects to finish I wasnt investing sooooo I used the monokote.but I learned something from one of club members and you mentioned it yourself. I bought a spraycan of minwax polycrylic clear satin and sprayed the plane and the the result was awesome. It went from a glossy shine to a nat finish making it look like fabric.I am pleased with it.my only disappointment is the markings.he bought british military decals but I just discovered in a book where texas back in WW1 had se5's as well with american army markers.damn lol. want to take it across the river here to the rhinebeck aerodrome in september fly it and sell it to someone else to fund new planes.

I am using a os 120(used) and decided tonite to stain the prop a dark brown for a more scale look which is silly probably as its really abprtion scale lol.but every little bit helps.I weighed it and so far its about 11 pounds.so I hope I dont have to add much weight.Iskipped the servos on top and will use an interlink connection but havent decided what to use.got any suggesation??lastly the front cowl was busted up and rather than contact dynaflite for another plastic cheapie I replicated one from wood and while not big in scale it looks much better.

lol.I was just going to fix it up and play with it but it seems I got a lot of work in it. it will be my first plane with my new DX7 spectrum radio.what a great system!!!!If I can get a few pics and transfer to the pc I will post ojay.no promise but my wife is the shutterbug in our family.

not that it has anything to do with the se5a at our IMaa yesterday a guy showed up with a huge tiger moth .my god the span was over 150 inches!awesome.and a couple of 1/3 scale pups..it would have put mine to shame lol.

Been a while since I last posted but I have still been working on my SE. Just finished making my wing struts. Just have to paint the wheels before I am ready to start installing the radio gear and engine. Have not decided whether I want to make struts for the undercarraige yet. Here are a couple of pics.

Jim, dont waste your money on the FunAero, you would enjoy a Balsa USA plane WAAAY better (my opinion only, as I own both)
I dont think a gasser would be very good in this plane, the fuse on the nose is very narrow, and with a glow engine the plane weighs 10lb max, it will do any manouver you ask (sorta) with a glow. I am sure it would fly with a gasser but you would be happier with a glow this time.

Howdy there Prop Nut,
Way back in the thread you made the comment quoted above.
Could you add details about this ?
Just wondering ... Beeeeecause .......

The FunAero kits were on sale just before Christmas either last year or year before and I bought the small (60" wingspan) SE5.
Its turn to be built finally arrived and I got started on it a few weeks ago.
I have the basic fuselage framed up (with the acknowledgement that the instructions could be improved) I would still rate the kit as very good to excellent overall.

I know this is asking the question after the fact but I am interested to know why you did not put the FunAero in the same class as the B-USA and where does the Dynaflite kit fit in the lineup ?
