Like most others have stated, it's a bidding war concern. I like RCU because someone advertises something, and I can buy it, or even haggle a fair price (to me) for it. With auctions, pride and impulse buying gets in the way. I once 'won' a EZ Models NIB .25 size Christen Eagle on EekBay, paid a whopping $375 for it (lost my mind), only to find out it was missing some of the famous decals, and once built, it was probably the WORST flying airplane I've ever flown, and I'm hardly a beginning flyer. That was the last time I let my emotion carry me like that. I eventually gave it to a Grandpa, and he hung it up in his grand-kid's room. Still looked great (minus the cowl decals), and the kid was thrilled, about all it was good for. If I find something I really like at auction, I'll keep looking, because I know it exists out there still. Classifed ads and swap shops are what I pay attention to, when it comes to used equipment. And it's mainly swap shops, because I can touch and feel the merchandise. For new items, most of my purchases are done through my local hobby shop. I like the online ads RC Universe offers in this respect, because I can see what's out there, but I'm no longer the type of flier that will buy just off the flashy ad. I'll let others beta-test for me, and when I see it in action, then I'll consider it. Seems terribly old fashioned, but that's the result. I don't have the latest thing on the block anymore, but that's not really why I got into model airplanes, anyway. I got into this, because I can build and fly something unique, a piece of history if you will, that otherwise I couldn't be able to do. My personal hangar is now far smaller that most others (probably), but what I do have, works well, looks good, and is personally pleasing to me. I was up to 22(!) aircraft ready-to-fly at one time, now I save a LOT more money for other parts of my life, and keep my hangar down to 6 or less, ready-to-go. Got at least 7 bigger r/c kits to build if I like, and numerous other projects to scratch build when time permits. Got a closet full of FF kits to convert to r/c, and for reference. Got a cabinet full of plans to build off of, and for reference for my own design efforts. A shelf full of books, a CAD system and Compufoil on the computer, and drawing programs of all sorts. I have enough right this moment to keep me busy forever. Don't you? You wanted to know, Phil
