Has anyone ordered or checked on "spare" parts for Yellow Aircraft ARF's? My Snappin' Cap busted it's cowl today, and I need a replacement...

Any info or input would be appreciated...

Thanks!

My experience with spares from Yellow Aircraft is that they are expensive. I ordered two 5" wheels with hubs for my P47 and they were $125.00. I can't imagine a cowl costing that much, but as a gage a cowl from Sig for the Sukhoi is $72.00.

You can get spare parts from Yellow such as a cowl for your CAP 232.... but they are not inexpensive.... Could be in the 60 dollar range for a 120-sized cowl (fiberglass and beautifully pre-painted). The jets, WWII, and scale planes from Yellow are another story in terms of price... be prepared to shell out mucho bucks for those spare parts (as Vince mentions).

Rcav8or,

Is your cap snappy? I have a 60 size cap that's almost ready to go.

Thanks,
Blackdog

I fly on about 120 acres all together - my buddy has a field, 40 acres, surrounded by three other 40 acre farms...so it's virtually unlimited...great place to fly!

I was in a great big loop, and it snapped at the top. Ended up pointed up, and when I did a wing over, it went into a spiral down. I was pretty concerned about giving it too much up, and snapping directly into the terra firma, but pulled out of that ok, at about 30 foot altitude. Did a pretty fast turn, and it snapped again, nothing radical, but DID snap.

The gent I bought it from, never had too much problem with it, but he DID say treat it with respect....I have always honored myself by considering myself a "respectful" flyer...

Now, I don't think there's an inherent problem with these, there are LOT'S of folks flying them, without incident. I feel maybe my CG was a little too far back - e.i. tail heavy. this is fine, for serious aerobatics, but NOT for me...I am going to add a bit of nose-weight before I fly it again. Then perhaps, I will move it slowly back, but I think it was just a bit too far back, for a first flight...

Now, remember, it wasn't the CG or anything that caused my damage! it was the fact that the runway is about 40 - 50 feet across, and I have never landed from the west...everything was ok, but I caught the edge of the runway, that had a LOT of brush, and if I had been 2 feet over, wouldn't have had any problem. I cartwheeled it in, once it hit the brush. Perhaps next year we will get rid of the brush....

Let us know how the .60 goes!!! I am feeling that it should fly great!!!

I'll keep the CG conservitive. I had a 60 size Kyosho cap which has a Saito 120 in it. I had alot of fun with that plane until I lost it in a low knife edge. She flew great and had no real tendency to snap over at all. I'm putting my Saito 91 in the yellow cap. What engine are you using?? How's the performance? Seems like the yellow cap is alot lighter and shorter fuse wise than my kyosho was. I'm also going with 2 jr 537's on the elevators. I'm not a big fan of one servo on the elevators.

Thanks,

Blackdog

mine is the 1.20 size - I have a Moki 1.35 on it, and in the few minutes I got to fly it, it seemed like it was plenty. I would be curious to know if anyone is using gas on the 1.20 size, and which motor they are using - I would like to replace the guzzling Moki with sipping gas, someday.

The .91 should be plenty on the 60 size, I would think - at least that's what I would put on it - probably the OS pumper, but they are both great engines.

Yeah, I almost always split my elevators with seperate servos - and then mix them instead of Y cord them. That way, you don't have to flip one over, and have a possible problem with geometry of the push rods...

"Your cowl will run about $40.00 from Charles. The wheel pants are about $30.00.

Great! I knew I'd get an answer, here at RCU...

I stripped back the covering off the wing- it might be wise if it's not TOO awful much to get a new one.

Now, any idea what a wing would cost?

thanks!

The wing will be about $110.00 as best as I can recall.

I stalled my 120 size extra due to a tail gust. When the APC prop hit the ground it broke at the hub ( I had throttled up trying to save it ) and hit the leading edge of the left wing panel so hard it broke most the ribs in the wing.

The covering just had a little tear but the ribs were trashed.

The plane has served me very well and I feel that I got my money out of it.

I need a left wing panel, wheel pants, cowl. The parts will add up to half the price of the kit.

Brian - thanks again - I had a feeling you had had some serious reason for knowing the prices...sorry.

Yeah, it's such a nice plane, it's worth replacing the stuff...it's that or just "eat" a $750 loss...

My Extra was a little heavy with my battery, pilot and muffler choice at 14.5 lbs. but it flew great. It had a small amount of coupling but it was a joy to fly. It will fly again, I have parts on order for it and another Yellow kit now.

Charles, thew owner said the shipmentof new planes was in customs last week so the parts should be here soon.

Couple questions, if you would be so kind...

What is your powerplant?

And what servos are you using? What torques?

Mine came with Airtronics servos, but I use Futaba. One of the aileron servos stripped so I will probably be changing them all, or at least some of them...

Thanks one more time!

I'm also putting together the 120 size extra. I called charles at Yellow to ask him what torque the servos should have. He said to put servos in that have at least 70oz of torque. I thnk I'm going to try the JR 8231' s on the ele, ail, and JR 4735 on the rudder.

I have a OS 160 FX with either a APC 18X6 or Mejzlik 20X6.
The servos were all 9202's but I am putting a Hitec 5945 on the rudder this time.

The Hitec's draw very low current, less than most non-digital servos.

Cowl - $53
Pants - $38
Wing - $175

Wow, might as well get the 300 kit...

I will have to see if I can save the wing - the cowl and pants won;t be too bad....
