Hello,

The Battle over Bloomfield 4 is on again for 2005. The date is June 18th, 2005. Our goal is to continue building off of the success of the prior events. With that in mind, here are some of the specifics:

* Registration will begin at 8AM - combat will start at 10. We will try and get in 6 rounds each of Scale 2610 and Open B combat.
* Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishers in both classes.
* We have extended invites to fly electric and / or WWI combat if there is enough interest.
* We will have a drawing throughout the day to give out prizes to both pilots and volunteers.
* AMA sanctioned event sponsored by the Wintonbury Flying Club.

For more information please email rccombat@snet.net
Also directions to the field can be found on the club website http://flywfc.org

Thanks
Rick, Dave and Demon

I'm planning on being there. I'm not 100% sure, but I think so. It was a great contest last year, I'm sure it will be as good or better this year.

Rick and Dave really put on an outstanding show! This event has always been low-key where having FUN is the most important factor. Don't get me wrong, serious talent shows up to do battle for points. But, new guys are encouraged and helped until they too are in there duking it out like pros.

If you miss this one, you'll have missed one of the best!

I'm interested into getting into combat flying and live outside of Boston. I thought SSC was the way to go, but this looks like the only event in NE this year and SSC isn't included. Any suggestions for getting started? Thanks

The first rule of combat is build what the local guys fly so you actually have someone to fly with.

SSC gets a lot of buzz, and it's popular in some parts of the country, but it's not caught on in the north east very much.

So, if you're up that way, I suggest you go with a B class plane. Open class planes aren't as fast as 2610, they are cheaper, and easier to build.

For specific airframes, there are lots of good options. Probibly the first place to check is to ask the local guys and see what they fly, since they will have experience making that plane fly well.

In general though, the Avenger and the Cobra are two of the best flying planes out there. I don't think the Cobra is good for a newbie to combat unless you have a lot of in-person help from someone who is already flying them or has experience with bladder fuel systems and flying wings in general. The TufFlight Panter is a very durable plane that is pretty easy to build and set up. It's also a flying wing, but it's easier to get going than the Cobra.

There are lots of other great flying planes out there as well.

erik58,

We don't usually host another official event until next year - still get in some "sport" combat on the weekends.

Keep an eye out - NCRCC up in ellington sometimes holds an event in early September....
