Does anyone know what happened to Skyborn Electronics? They were manufacturing the TNC Tach along with numerous other items but their web site has been down for quite some time.

Skyborne Electronics was sold in 2004.  The new owner knew NOTHING about the RC Industry.  In fact, he failed to make payments to the original owners. They got a court order to sieze the company's assests.  When they went to the warehouse, it was empty.  The guy who "bought" the company had skipped town ... taking about $250,000 worth of merchandice and equipment.

Are these $95.00 tachs significatly more accurate than the $25.00 tachs you can buy anywhere? And if you are off by 100 RPM, so what?

OK ... The TNC Tach is commonly refered to "The tach for the pros".  Yes ... to the average RC Pilot, +/- 100 PRM is not a big deal.  However, for a Pilon Racer who has an engine turning 27,000 or so RPM?  YES ... +/- 100 RPM is a HUGE difference.  No other tach out there will read that high as accurate as the TNC.

The TNC can read 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 bladed props from up to 6 feet away and the it can check your Heli, Ducted Fan and Turbine.

In short ... with a TNT, you need no other tach.

I don't own a TNC but from what I undertand the TNC can read the prop from a much greater distance than the cheap tachs , so the safety factor is what warrants the extra cost.

I have had a number of tachometers through the years and the TNT tach is by far the best. Besides accuracy, I like the fact you can get a good reading from 3 feet away in almost any light condition and it displays both the current rpm and the highest rpm recorded. In that way you do not have to try and read it while pointing it at the prop.
