Just for information, here is the latest Mk4 JJ 1400 with new intake cover and shows the compressor dia increased from 40mm to 44mm on the outer furthest forward edge on the retro curved blades. This probably means less machining of the commercial compressors and more room for the fuel and gas fittings.

Interesting to me is that while the back of the compressor remains 54mm, then these were not a wren copy or is it only now is JJ copying wren or indeed are they completely different profiles and curveture on the compressor blades. Anyone with a Mk2 wren care to measure the front dia at the inlet for interest only.

Paul

Greg

Is this a new choice of avator or is this just to gain male interest?

Hey guys. I got a couple more bench runs on my jj-1200. It seems to perform pretty nicely and i am getting it back up to max rpms after reprogramming my GB Hobbies ECU. the only real problem is it seems to take a while to ramp up to idle speed just like ET. I also seem to have to keep the starter engaged to about 27-30k rpms to sucessfully attain idle. Is this because i dont have the upgraded compressor with the 2 more rotor vanes? Im assuming that the upgraded compressor increases the airflow and gas compression at the lower speed before idle speed, thus alowing it a faster ramping. Im goin to play around with the ramping values a bit more this week and see if i can improve on ramping time. Also it sounds like i have a very slight vibration at about 80,000 rpms so i may need to do a rebalance. What is the best way to detect an imbalance in a turbine? im just guessing because it makes a real high pitched sound somewhat different than the normal turbine sound. Does anyone know if skymac has the proper facilities to do a dynamic balance? Or does anybody know a place in the US to get a descent price on a dynamic balance. thanks in advance for any information!

Send it to RTI to get a dynamic balance. As for the starting, increase your propane. Russ

Hi fella's. I'm looking at purchasing 2 of the JJ1400's for my Avonds F-14 project. Would yall suggest using the full auto FADEC that jet joe supplies, or another?

JetJoe sells a balancer, you can do it at home! Check it out!!

You can do Balance in your home or workshop if you have this smallest balance tool......
You can assemble or deassemble our engine any time you want, just follow the photo instructions.

"Balancing" is indeed very important for a turbine engine, our special tools 'balancer' accessory item no #251 can let you do the balancing on each wheel, or on an assembled rotor in your own work shop by yourself, no need to send engine back to facotry for balancing

You don't need no fancy-schmantzy foreign-made balancer thingie. Just a couple of single-edge razor blades set in a wooden block. Put the shaft on the razor blades, spin it up, then add a lick of dope to the lightest blade, and off you go.

Balancing of these engines is best left to the pro's who have the "proper" equipment to do so. Send it to RTI and let Carlos do it right. It'll save you a lot of grief later on and you'll be glad you did.

Cheers,

On the harmonic vibration at 80k if you are NOT using the pre-load this can cause this. It did to us. We installed the pre-load and no more issues. If it needs balancing RTI is the ticket.

On the F-14 setup, i ran a 1400 auto start this weekend. It does great. Started everytime, except one, we forgot to turn the fuel on. . Cools down well also. Russ

I'd suggest you hang on and watch more people get more airtime on these engines and see how they do, reliability-wise, before committing them to such an involved project as an Avonds F-14. I have not seen anybody yet with more than one or two flights...

Thanks for your concern, but I plan on putting both of these engines on a Yellow aircraft stingray, hotspot or some sort... or possibly a scratch built jet project that i've got to finish..

but back to the original question... I don't mind having to fiddle with things.. and i've got an A&P, so i'm 100% positive that i can figure it out.
