I have gone to Dreamworks and purchased the Rossi Plugs. They work very well and seem durable.

Here are some pictures of my Topgun Mig 29n powered by a JJ 1800. It flys awsome with power to spare. It's 20 lbs dry .

Hey Meps,

Do you have any video of it flying? would be good to see, I don't know of many other 1800 powered machines on video.

Cheers,
Smithy.

Yes, two of my friends took video. As soon as they give me copies I will upload them.

Excellent, nice job on the 29 too, how does she fly?? I ask because I have very little experience at flying, am looking into getting an easy to fly "turbine trainer". I suspect something like that would be way beyond my feeble flying abilities...!

Cheers,
Smithy.

It flies very easy and predictable. I'm carrying 64 oz of fuel including the UAT and I get between four and five minutes of full throttle flying. My last flight, my HDT was indicating 117,000 rpms and I only got four minutes. I ended up going dead stick as I was turning from base to final. It glided better than any other jet that I own.

117k rpm, hmmm, I was under the impression that the ECU would limit the JJ1800 to 115k? I guess there would be a bit of give and take as there is with the idle, we often see them a bit "erratic" at times. I wonder if the low fuel would cause the slightly high rpms, with less in the way of restriction/suction etc...then again that's less than 2% variation, not bad really considering what it has to do!

Cheers,
Smithy.

Well, My JJ1800 reach 17100 ~ 17300 with full tank, so it's not the fuel issue. (the ECU limit is 150000...)

It was reading 117,00 rpms with full tanks and taxi tank still connected. So far, it has proven to be an awsome engine.

Nice result, it has motivated me to go into the workshop, I need to repaint mine and get it up flying.

Knobby while this is not a trainer, like a Baby B, these deltas are stable, not tippy and great fun at high angles of attack.

Paul

150,000??? The JJ1800 would be in quite a few pieces before it got to that sort of rpms.... As would many other 66mm turbine engines I suspect.

For the JJ1800, they're ECU limited to 115,000rpm, unless of course you have a different ECU than the one provided with the engine!!

Cheers,
Smithy.

I bought a JJ1800 starter to fit to my RAM750. I noticed that the motor is free to move inside the housing. Is there a prefered method for locking the motor in place in the housing so it doesn't move fore/aft?
