dntmn,
I'm not sure I would want to use aluminum studs. There's quite a bit of torque on these mounts. Also, it would require threading the standoffs. I've done this for someone before and found it to be extremely frustrating, but possible. I wound up breaking a tap off inside one of them!! If I were to go the stud route, I would most likely go with steel or possibly titanium, if I could find them.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I just applied the stickers for my Patty Wagstaff Scheme Extra 260. I love it. It flies 3d and IMAC great. Still trimming her out but so far it's been fantastic.

So buy them ready made. You don't have to thread them yourself, and they are plenty strong.

I need some info to give troy built models...

What is the weight length and diameter of the wing tube?

What is the weight length and diameter of the tailtubes?

Once I give them this info they will offer CF wing and tailtubes estimated weight of the replacement wingtube will be 7oz!

Aerohead, Imacflyr3,
Why does the stand off have to be internally threaded? Can't the all thread rod or a long bolt be used with lock nuts on back of the firewall allowing the standoff to serve as a spacer between engine and firewall.

aerohead and Hawk-i,

I made my own standoffs which is much cheaper than the $32.50 plus shipping for these. I'm not worried about the strength of the standoffs, but of the aluminum threaded studs it was suggested I use with them. Mine are much simpler to make and use, which is why I'll sell them so cheap. They are drilled all the way through and a long piece of all thread is inserted through the center and held in with nuts (just as Hawk is suggesting). You may want to view the previous page of this thread for the whole story and pictures.

Thanks for the interest.

IMACFLYR3,

The studs I suggested was 2"long aluminum allthread that could be used with your through drilled standoffs. Longer lengths avalable

Oops! I only saw the 1 1/2 inch. I'd still be a bit wary of the aluminum. It's something I'd have to try out first. I tend to get a bit heavy handed when I'm tightening things down! I may have to look into it anyway, just for the weight savings involved.

Is the blue scheme more difficult to see than red one in a blue sky?

I would say the blue one is more difficult to see at far. Specially with a blue sky behind.

What you see on top is what you see in the bottom, but not on the original Patty 260 though. I actually went to the Museum and took some pictures of it. I haven't seen the red scheme yet but there's a guys in our club that's building one right now. With the Patty scheme, I would suggest adding some bright colors on the bottom. It's kinda hard to see with the stock colors.
I flew it through the intermediate and unlimited sequence today and it handled it just fine.

Does the BME 110 plugs stick out on this airplane like the DA 100 do or can they be concealed within the cowl?

You'll like it. I put mine on last night. I saved about 3 oz over the Al gear - if I remember that far back!! You will probably have to clean up the mounting holes and drill out the axle holes plus sand off (on the inside) the area around the axles so that the nuts will have enough threads.

No bigge, and its worth the 3 ounce savings. What color is the gear - I am going to guess that its white. The new Red scheme is even prettier than the last red scheme. I am going to have two identical planes, but I think I will have the other one in the Wagstaff scheme. Need to have some difference in them at least...lol.

Now if I only had more time to build. College starts Monday, which is good and bad. I havent been back to school full time in over 4 years, or while I was gone in the service. Checkout my website everyone: www.airbornesgt.com - I will document a lot more about building Wild Hares and also have more pictures and videos.

Brian,
Yeah I know, I havent programmed in any html yet. I tried to write html straight from notepad, but realized I am not as good as I used to be.

I measured the standoff length. Its really only 3/4". I would say an inch would stick it out a tad too much, so I will go with a hair over 3/4" to be safe. Since the standoffs are so short I will make some myself I think. Have to love Lowes!

No I never had the pleasure of being on a Navy ship. My grandpa telling me stories of waves bigger than that ship he was on was enough to turn me off to the whole thing. Then something about my dad telling me he chased around lots of girls in the Army kind of warmed me up to that. If I could go back and do it again, I would have gone in the Airforce...lol. Thats just my .02
