ive been thinking this over for about 6 months now, finaly got my nitro blizzard in about a month ago and started work on it, ive been snowboarding for about 5 years now and it wasnt untill i started seeing these awesome snowcats on the mountain did i want a nitro blizzard, thankfully the nitro blizzard is a good platform to build a blade from. having the perfect mount and a nice space between the engine and gas tank for a servo to lift the blade. the whole setup uses 3 servos, 3 hitech 645-mg's for complete control of the blade. the blade tilts 2 directions, only one direction is fixed. you can see it in the pics. From mammoth with love [img]http://www.orangevending.com/parkbully10.jpg[/img] [img]http://www.orangevending.com/parkbully11.jpg[/img] [img]http://www.orangevending.com/parkbully12.jpg[/img] [img]http://www.orangevending.com/parkbully13.jpg[/img] finaly getting this thing in lose snow was a blast, this thing actually has great pushing power. allthough it needs to get up to a somewhat high speed for shaping snow. i would like to get it moving much slower with more torq. i need to make some changes to the drivetrain and gearing somehow, i dont know if they make smaller clutchbells/larger spurs for this thing, another option is lowering the ratio where the chain is, connecting the diff to the track sprokets. allthough that requires machine work. along with other improvments, the servo i have lifting the blade is at 133 oz at 6V, allthough only about 40 oz of that torq makes it to the blade, the angles from the servo arm to the blade arm are perfect, using as much as the servo arms movement as i can use and moving the blade as much as i want to, the only thing i can do from here is more torq on the servo side, looking into my options theres some real torqy servos with the same case size, going higher up in case size is not an option with space. once i get a few issues resolved, im gonna build a full scale working tiller for it i realise the blade is overscaled, i thought it would have enough power to push enough snow to make it worth having a larger than scale blade, sofar it seems worth the change.

after much time away from the project, and much consideration. ive desided there are 2 major options for me to go with my rc park bully, 4 stroke or electric are the only 2 ways i can get the speed and torq i want to realy push snow. and with the price of 4 strokes i think its initally easyer to go with a electric bully for mounting of a blade and tiller. so once the funds are there i will be purchising a electic blizzard, gonna head into emachineshop and build some aluminum mounts for the blade and tiller to save some weight. the electic blizzard also gives me a ton more room on the deck for mounting servos/batterys and such. my space on the nitro version was so limited i ran out of ideas on how to build it further without making it a complete mess to work on. i hate to give up the nitro for this project but it well be easyer and cheaper to acheive what i want to do with this. i gotta admit though i think a 4 stroke bully would sound awesome. look for pictures in the upcoming months.

Hi. Nice. Now I wish we had snow here in warm/hot sunny Philippines. About your torque issue, before spending a heap, may I suggest trying either a smaller pinion or a larger spur as you earlier mentioned. Can't really rule that out without trying it. However, if you still don't feel it's worth it, here's something you can do for cheap that will really give a dramatic change... from my experience, remove the stock muffler/pipe and replace it with a touring car pipe. I've done this with these types of engines, and OMG what a difference a free breathing pipe makes. Doesn't have to be an expensive, hi-performace racing pipe... just a much more free-flowing one than the stock one. It's a cheap thing to try... for me, it was free, coz I just happend to have an old touring car pipe lying around. I tell you, you will notice about twice the power both in torque and top speed. Let me know how it goes if you decide to try it.

By the way, I of course noticed that a touring car tuned pipe will not fit into the cab, so may I suggest trying to run it with a touring car pipe, but without the cab on first. An HPI pipe for an RS4 would do nicely, or maybe pipes for a Kyosho Super 10 would be good too, as both are mounted on the right side of the engine, however you may have to find a manifold/header that will fit the side exhaust and go upward rather than downward (as most headers are made) to avoid contact with the fuel tank. Oh no... I think I'm getting into this now... I'd better stop before I go out and get a Nitro Blizzard. Oh, and electric is fun, but there's nothing like the realism of the sound and smell or nitro. beena while since i updated this, felt like getting back into it Nitro or Electric ? no longer a question, nitro cant cut it, and theres no simple way to modify the drivetraining enough to cut the ratio in half or even close. 4 stroke is to expensive of a route to try, allthough it may work. ive decided fully on electric for simplicity and cost. im currently in the process of trying to get a electric tranny and topplate from kyosho, other than that.... being in the process of designing the tiller right now, im going to build detachable groomers, one a operational tiller and the other simply a dragging groomer. the major flaw in any of my tiller designs is the drivetrain at the moment. everything i think i got fairly figured out, gonna build a prototype soon. im looking for the material to use to form the codyroy shape. im wondering if anyone knows of a thin rubber like material that allready has that shape, i want to try to avoid cutting it in there my self. I am also considering building a plow and groomer for my Nitro Blizzard. It sure helps seeing how others have done it. Did you weight your's down in the rear? The NB is nose heavy as it is and adding extra weight in the front in the form of a plow does not help much. How drivable is is with the plow lifted?

the both versions of the blizzard are front heavy as it is, the blade setup i made is very heavy for what it is as well, i used 2 large long fishing weights wiretied to the platic bulkhead in the rear, one in front and one hanging off the rear. id guess 3Lbs or more. i cant find them right now to weight them, but basicly i tryed to even the weight out to allmost 50/50 the way it drives in snow and handles is mostly all in weight, the blade it self doesnt realy change the way it drives. its such a slow moving beast as it is. id say just build your blade, and add lead to the back to even it. i cant say much for how it runs in deep powder, allmost never got it into any before or after the weight. so thats still to be seen at the moment. http://www.snow-groomer.com/index.php click on Funktionsmodellbau towards the bottom, you well see most of my inspiration. and some other methods. only a couple are blizzards. the rest are customs.

Im not sure what kind of LED lights you are using but leds run on a forward voltage of 3.3 volts. You should be able to run them off of 3.3VDC or higher and simply use a resistor to lower the voltage. If you are using a preassembled lighting setup my guess is that they have already added a resistor taking into account a 12VDC source. You could either make your own lights or, if possible, replace the resistor already in the circuit. If you need any help on calculating which resistor to use or how to wire something like that up Id be more than happy to help. Let me know.

I am wondering what others have done to increase the power for the nitro blizzard. I thought about a tuned pipe yet, I would prefer to put a .21 motor in place of the .12. What is needed to make this happen?

berns, there is a lot to be done if you want to keep the body as it is. A normal power .15-engine is more than enough and fits right in if it's a Kyosho engine. Otherwise you need Kyoshos engine mounting. Most 0.15 size pullstart engines with side exhaust will fit. Make sure you measure the exhaust port dimensions before ordering a new engine. I have a Kyosho GS-15R in mine and it slips right in. It is powerful enough in first gear not to be a problem at all when driving up steep hills. I need no extra power and run mine on 15 % nitro. I had the GS-11X/GS-11R in another model and that engine is very low on power and easily wears down. My guess is that your's is low on compression, leaks air from the carb or the like. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/50410/lg-129037.jpg[/image] With some snow taken home from bigbear over recent winter storms a little progress update. ive been slowly working on her again the last couple of months. while on paper im starting over from stratch to build a more realistic and proper blade/tiller. i decided to put the old stuff back on and tweak it a little to have some fun. for realy making her into a realistic snowcat ive got her tuned in realy good. ive tweaked the suspension to give even downforce on all the tires under the tread, with added weight for a better center of gravitiy, and 80T crawler motor with 12T pinion. this baby crawls and pushes like you wouldnt belive, and last forever on a charge. im leaving for lake tahoe in a week and taking the cat with me, should get some realy great photos, i also have some video ill post later. On paper im doing a major rebuild, This time with a smithy 3in1 machine, im able to make everything exactly how i want, the first blade was built without the help of a lathe/mill. this revision starting off very much like its full size counter part, and is completly dependent on my ability to design a hydraulics system to work with it. i know its possable, its just going to take me a while. but this project is not dead by all means. and is slowly working its way up =)

a few more shots of recent progress, ive put alot of designs on paper, this is just a inital mock up of parts and ideas, so far im quite happy with it and every thing looks solid, lots of work from here though still. i feel good seeing it in reality from paper. for a while i was held back by not being able to buy tooling for finsh certin parts of the idea, now i have that covered im able to get back into it and see fequent progress, ill keep you guys updated.
