Has anyone tried the gear oils sold by most oil manufacturers? The oils I am talking about is the 100% synthetic polyalkylene glycol based oils specially made as a gear oil for the industrial needs. Are they good enough for our glow engines?, by them selves or mixed with castor oil.

The reason for me looking for options is that this industrial oils are normaly much cheaper than the synthetics found in the hobbystores .

Status: offline 		Apparently the synthetics we use are the same thing. If you read about half way down through this link you'll find a mention of this type of synthetic oil.

In England and new Zealand one of the favourite oils was Castrol MSSR which I believe is a synthetic gear oil.

Status: offline 		Do you know waht viscosity would work best for our high performance two and fourstrokes?. They are measured @40 and 100 degree celsius. Do you the viscosity of the Castrol MSSR @40 and 100 degree celsius?

Status: offline 		In the early 70's, Castrol stopped marketing "Castrol M"castor oil in Canada and replaced it with a polyalkylene glycol synthetic called "Castrol Super M". We soon learned that any slightly lean running with Super M used straight at 22% resulted in scuffed and scored sleeves and pistons. Mixing it 50-50 with Castor oil cured the problem. Super M had a short market life in Canada and we switched to Ucon MA731 which I believe is a polypropylene glycol synthetic, with much better results.

Status: offline 		So from what I understand, Super M is no longer available, and most have switched to Ucon MA731. But what exactly is Ucon MA731 and where can a person buy it in Canada or the USA.?? The other question is also good quality compressor oils. It seems that using AMSOIL compressor oils would work, but haven't been able to confirm this with any one. Does any one know?
