These pics were from Saturday Night right after sunset, there was still a little light and Jason took one up for a spin.

Jason got into a little trouble on landing, Jason said that he had no elevator, I believe on of the batteries went out and he lost one side of the plane. If you look you can see that the right wheele broke off and the landing gear just dug into the ground. I think the landing gear was the only damage.

Rudder trouble: That was a mid-air that only the pilot, Kevin Young from J'TEC, of the Panzel (yellow plane shown) knew about. He said he was flying along and a Corsair (I think) flew right by them and they had a mid-air. After landing Kevin went to the Corsair pilot and told them they had a midair, but nothing was wrong with the Corsair.

The Yak did lose a battery on the left side (5.2V no-load on a Poly pack). While I was flying Barry Fink's Comp-ARF Yak, I noticed that the snaps weren't as crisp as they were earlier and then I saw that the aileron on the left wasn't moving anymore. I made 1 pass downwind (should have landed it downwind) and when I turned back upwind and lined up for final that's when the battery died. In the first pic you can see that the left aileron and elevator were flopped down and that is what caused the plane to hit hard on the gear. The motor was at mid-idle (hooked up on the dead battery side) and 1 elevator down and the other up made for an interesting recovery. The stills look good (other than the gear breaking off) and the airplane was not damaged.

Anthony,

That is 1 of 2 great P-47's in that area. I did find a photo on page 2, post 42 that has the 2 planes I talked about. Certainly not knocking the one in your post; it was outstanding.

Does anyone else drool over the AD-4/AH1 Skyraiders there? I have both years I've been.

I found a posting on RunRyder about a Heli flyin in Mobile later. Are you a member of this club?

Hi Roy,
I'm the poster in #42, also a member of the club in Mobile that's planning the heli fly in.

F16 pilot said he talked to them on 121.5. I didn't know F16's had VHF. Maybe just gaurd, 121.5 and 243.0 ?

F-16's have UHF and VHF am/fm. preselected channels or "dial-it yourself." The VHF set is mainly for communications with the Army (or others) on the ground. (Former F-16 fixer)

Jon,

Love that shot of the Butcher Bird and Jug. I hope somebody brings a Long Nose Dora FW190 D-9 that I get to see one of these days.

I have been to your club field 2 years ago during a 3-D fly-in in November. I looks like a good place to fly. I want to see the heli fly-in, especially after seeing Curtis Youngblood during the noon break at the Nall. I have NEVER seen anything like that before. I hope to see a lot more of his flying now that we're trying heli's, too. The level of control shown by recovering without missing a beat in his demo after hitting the banner WITH THE ROTORS nose-in, inverted, 250' away from himself is outstanding!

A friend and I went to Joe Nall's 2005 gathering... we had a great time and I look forward to going again. There were some awesome planes, allot of friendly people and some great air-shows provided... although I did feel sorry for Jason when he did a lip-stand with that beautiful plane! One thing I think that would also be of interest would be more vending be it private of wholesale... including food! All in all we had a great time and look to see it again next year... PS. don't forget to bring the sunscreen!!! (I lost at least two layers of skin). I do have some cool pictures but don't know how to attach them... !?

Jason,

My son Shaun and I enjoyed your flights also. I have watched you at 2 Nall's and the DL Masters '04, but this was Shaun's first exposure to your level of flying. He was as bug-eyed as I was, and is already looking forward to Nall and DLM '06. We hope to see you soon in a pattern contest in our area.

Does anyone else drool over the AD-4/AH1 Skyraiders there? I have both years I've been.

Skyhawk,
Yep, I was drooling over that Skyraider as well as the C-47 that guy had there. From what I saw he had my vote for the best builder and also for his flying skills. I saw him fly his F-51, Skyraider and C-47 and every aspect of those flights looked real. The wind was blowing pretty good Friday afternoon but his take off and landing of that C-47 was immaculate. I wish I'd asked him his name so I could acknowledge him.
This was my first trip down and it won't be my last. My son and I flew down from Seattle but were only there on Friday and Saturday. My boy, who is 10, really enjoyed Quiquie's show the most. He's an aspiring IMAC pilot who loved all the aerobats. We also got his picture with Quiquei too. (sorry for the spelling Q)
The big P-51 with the 3 cylinder was one of my favorites. The low, and I mean LOW, full throttle passes were really cool. I've attached a fuzzy picture of one. I heard that the guy lost the airplane on Sunday. Can anyone confirm that?
Besides the C-47, one of the big Jugs gets my vote for very scale looking and flying. I don't remember which one it was. There were at least 5 that I saw that were all beautiful.

Unfortunately, the Fokker Triplane crashed right after my son took this picture. I'm not sure, but it looked like he got shot down. It was a shame too. The little mini dogfight they were doing was really cool.

Here are a few of the pictures I took at Joe Nall this year. Check out http://www.sanfordaeromodelers.com/ then the picture gallery to see over 50 more that I took. This is the second year that I attended, and it was even bigger and better than the previous year. There is something for everyone, from WWI to extreme 3D, and the people are so friendly. The full scale air show was a real treat as well as all the R/C flying. Will be there next year for sure.

My second year also. The only thing I missed was the Bomber taking up Chuck Yeager that I saw last year.

Actually, he had an electronics failure. The Sopwith he was flying with belongs to a guy in my club, and I was at the flight line when it all happened, shooting video. The Fokker had a gyro in it (don't ask ME why) and the guy who was flying said he started having intermittent control problems, and then lost all rudder control. His canopy was also next to ours, and the bird, although hurt pretty badly, will fly again. The bottom wing had a small ding on the trailing edge, but the other two wings were untouched. The landing gear was fairly well trashed, and the fuse was broken in two directly behind the cockpit. The tail was completely undamaged.

The "dogfight" WAS great, wasn't it? Steve (guy with the Pup) also has a DR-I like the one that crashed, a Nieuport 17, and a Bristol monoplane, and he isn't afraid to mix it up. He had gotten together with several of the other WWI guys and they all tried to get up at once, but some guys had problems getting their channel pins, and "Sarge" on the flightline kept them moving. Here's one of the best pix to come out of this year's event, IMO

It was a great show this was my first time there and I really enjoyed it I was there from Monday till Saturday and it was a great event. Lots of good deals on some used planes like my buddy bought a 1/3 Lanier Extra for 450 bucks with servo's looks pretty good even thou its hot pink we have been dogging him pretty bad for the Pink I think he will pickup a Marry Kay sponsership or tampax or something like that I have a vinyl cutter and hes plane is here

Sylvester and Buddy Hale are good friends of mine and they invited me and told me about Joe Nall I got to watch buddy do someflights with a couple 40% Pitt's Model 12's and I think he did really good better than some others there. Course thats my opinion and I am a little biased however you spell biased...

Here are few pic's
