I put the CG at the recommended point in the manual and then I did the CG flying test. take it on a 45 upline , roll inverted and check to see if it pitches to the belly or canopy, I also roll the plane into a banked turn and see if the nose drops , it will drop a little but if it is alot then I move the CG till I think it is right. Then I fly some maneuvers to check it. I started at 6 1/2" back from the leading edge but right now I know I moved it so I am not sure what it is. It is a feel thing for me. I know I added some nose weight but not much. It takes me about 10 flights or so to get it right, then I move battery and what ever else I can to get the CG at the point I want without adding lead. IF you really want to set up a plane to fly great, there is a set procedure. I have a DPM edge 540 and Dave Patrick provided the cheat sheet to set up your model. I know it has been published by others but I dont remember who. I think it was in a magazine. It takes me about 60 flights before I finish everything but it is worth it. The top flyers use this or some variation that they came up with. We have a top competition pilot in our club and he does the same thing, he just used his own method. He has a new competition plane that should be taking its maiden any day now. He told me it takes him 60 - 70 flights to set the model up, but man what a difference when you do. If you cant find it let me know and I will try to get it to you somehow, I work alot out of state so If you can find it on the web that would be better, try the IMAC home page.
