Hi all,

I'm considering a Seidel 710 for 2 projects ; Savex Aero102 and possibly the Flair Stearman. I found a vendor in Switzerland who has the 710 on stock with a nice ring muffler installed. I contacted also Solo prop to have a quote on their 2 props hub assemblies, but they need to know the propeller size. Can any solo prop / Seidel 710 or 770 owner advise about their choosen setup ?

Thanks indeed
Sk

Hello SK,

my Savex Aero is ordered and will - hopefully - be finished in August. Haven't heard from them after two e-mails but I keep my hopes up!

I will put one of my spare 770ies in it. So lets definitely stay in contact to share our experience and ideas!
I will make my own ring muffler the same way as seen on the Savex page. (see picture below) I have contaced the builder of that Aero and he gave me advice. I like that solution much more, than a front ring - more scale. And temperature will be no problem I suppose - since it is not exactly a high performing engine... Imagine a 60 size four stroke running at 5000 rpm. Not much heat there. So here we have seven 60 size engines... Big deal...

As for the Solo-prop: Seems to be a problem with the 770 -cause of the hub. The 710 won't pose a problem there

I am running a wooden 24x10 on a Seidel 710 (Menz). However, that is a Biplane - supposed to be slow!

The Aero I would like to be a bit faster, given the shape and appearance of the plane - which reminds me of the golden age racers. Hence I would not go bigger than 22 inch on a two bladed prop. About 20 on three blades I suppose. Then fiddle around with the pitch to bring it up to about 4200 rpm on take off. That would get it to about 5500 in speed flight (hopefully, that is a rough guess!)! Should be rocking...

Anyhow - lets stay connected...

Cheers, Martin

Hello Martin,

Funny before your post I just went to Savex website and have seen the same picture. It made me wonder about the prop size. I was also assuming that it was your model, or was it the Gnome's one ? I don't know anymore... About the ring muffler for the Aero102 you're absolutely right ; the rear one as shown in your picture is more scale and is quite a clean install. The original seemed to have it behind the engine as well (see original picture from Savex). So I will probably have the front ring muffler bought with the engine that will go for the Stearman and I will have another one done for the Aero102. Let us know when you receive your kit (lucky man ! ) Did you order it with a paintscheme ? Vaclav was not very clear about if he was offering paintschemes also.

PS

Notice the original had a 3 blades prop. Wonder if solo prop will have a solution for this, BTW thanks for your prop size advises, I will get back to them with a 22' 2 blades / 20'' 3 blades request

regards
Sk

Hello Charles and everyone,

it had to happen one day! Sh....

Engine stopped after a loop. And then - I still cannot believe it - I commited the ultimate pilot mistake. Learned about it intensly during my own flight training, and still: I tried to turn back to the field. NEVER DO THAT - especially not with a biplane, unless you have more than sufficient altitude.
So a sudden stall and down it went.. See the results below.

But it will fly again! will be a lot of work, but heck - gotta do it!
