Red, great forum, being back into rc after some years out i have been reading as much as i can to try and be informed and get the most out of my equipment . Here is my question on the r/c battery clinic web site there is a heading "keeping your batterys in ready state with out damageing overchargeing" this artical discusses useing a timer to replaced only what you have used from your battery pack and does a good job of explaneing it .OK --now on the model sport aviation web site at www.masportaviator.com/ah,asp?ID=68&index=0( sorry best i could do ) on page 2 of a artical by Bob Aberle dated 3-22-05 paragraph 10 states " don't be temped to restore only enough charge to replace what you have taken out at the field Ni-Cd-NiMH battery chimistry is such that it need C/10 current charge and a minimum of 10 hrs. charge -any thig less will cause problems.I fly may be 2 or 3 times some times maybe 6 or 7 but i always hook up and charge the Tx and Rx with the stock JR charger but i have installed a ACE auto add a trickel and after 15 hr it goes in to trickel mode and i leave it till i go flying again . Is this good or bad-. it seem everone has a diffrent opinion.

thanks mike

Bob's advice is on the conservative side. Focused on those that have difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time. You have to remember that in this ARF generation there are some that just can't comprehend the concepts and the mathematics involved that are put forth in the article you mention.

Your technique is fine. Bottom line, is that you will get better service life by not leaving the packs on a C/10 charge perpetually. You should, if you can do the math, put in at least 140% of what you took out. Charge acceptance efficiencies and all that come into play so putting in only what you took out will bite you rather quickly. I think this is what Bob is eluding to.

Thanks Red - like i said after a 15 hr cycle the charge rate goes to 1/5 rate with the trickel add on --i thought it would be on the safe side. Some guys cycle and charge evey time they charge. the cycleing looks like over kill to me seems like it you would use up the life of the pack quickly thanks again mike
