Status: offline 		This is my own design scratchbuilt ME 109 taken from a 3-view 65mm x 65mm reference book image and scanned up to produce a 44inch wingspan model. This was then printed off in Paint onto A4 copy paper and taped together. The Clark Y section airfoil is taken from the Profili free softwre available online.

The model is of traditional balsa construction with fully built up wing. The fuselage is covered in ordinary brown parcel paper using 30% water thinned pva glue - then primed and painted with ordinary houshold paint - and coated with 2 thin coats of polyurethene varnish for fuel proofing.

Total weight is just over 3lbs and the model balnces perfectly at 30% on mean wing chord. Power is an OS .25LA, 9 x 6 prop and a 4oz tank is fitted - but can take up to a 9oz is necessary for really long flights.

An undercarriage is fitted for initial flights but will be removed later.

I 'maidened' the model recently and this is a few images that i hope you want mind me shring with you.
She really does fly well and cost about £20 + covering to buld.

Her takeoffs are marginal on the .25 from wet grass but once airborne she's very lively and flies really well....and she's tough!

The fuz. is conventionally built from balsa. I then soaked brown parcel paper with thinned pva glue and also the fuz then applied this brushing from the centre outwards. Smooth this down and allow to dry for 24hours Any small bubbles will dry out. Next sandpaper with medium grade. Then prime the paper and paint as required. It's cheap and very effective.

I have used this covering technique several times in the past and always had great results. I read about this technique in an English publication a few years back. Took me awhile to figure out what "PVA" was!

This 28inch span MiG-3 is also scanned up from a 2inch square 3-view reference image. The built up wing is film covered and the balsa fuselage/tail unit in parcel paper and thinned pva (white water-based wood glue). Then primed amd painted with household paint. Powered by a £4 speed 400 electric motor and 8 x Sanyo 500AR cells. Total weight 21ozs - and goes like blazes!

Status: offline 		I'm pleased to say that she flies and handles really well and is one tough little model!

The fuz. is covered in brown paper, primed and top coated in household paint - then varnished to fuel-proof.
