I have been experimenting with the camera's I will be using for the filming. There is two of them, I will only be using one of them for the Mamod Engine section filming. It will be mounted on a tripod for most of them filming but I will be doing some pan shots hand held. I am keen in photography and so the camera's are very good for me because they have a fully manual feature so I can adjust the apature to a very wide setting and have some nice broken focus shots. I will try to get all the filming into one filling of the boiler and so I will have to be working quickly. The audio will be recorded using a camera mounted directional microphone.

For the steam car bit (it will be shot indoors), I think I will turn the shutter speed right down and pan with the car as it moves so that the car stays in focus while the background appears to blur. This is used alot in Automobile racing photography. I will then speed the footage up in Final Cut Pro and so I will have a 60mph Steam Car!

I think the only problem with filming indoors on the floor and not like with the Mamod which will be on a raised tabe is that the camera may not be able to get low enough.

Thanks,
Chris

Any updates on this video? I just ran across this post so maybe it was posted already in other thread?
This stuff is cool. I know alot of people like to come in here and crack on this stuff as it has limited use compared to an r/c car, but you really have to be a true gear head to understand this sort of thing. Just watching an engine running on its own power just makes my day.

drevil, thanks for your support. I have finished editing, I now need to compress it to a wmv file and find a host for all you to see. I think I'll post it on RC Pics.com, if only I could remeber my account password!

Hey cummins.

I am another UK member with a few steamers.

I have a Wilesco Traction Engine, a bit like yours but has the cannopy and a few oterh bits.

A mamod donkey engine tied to a mini grinding wheel i use to well, grind stuff.

A home made engine mounted in a 4 foot long boat.

Steam is cool.
