Well this one is a bit baffling because the attitude of the model shouldn't make any difference to the engine. I'm not trying to be a smart*** but could you be hearing some noise from the tail wheel when you turn the prop? Are you lifting the tail up with one hand and turning the prop with the other? Most people have a tendency to pull forward on the prop at the same time doing this and if the spinner happens to be just touching the airframe the forward load might give just enough clearance to stop the rubbing. I gather it's the MVVS so it's not just a case of a crank shaft moving back in a plain bearing engine.
