Two summers ago I built an Adrian Page Gee Bee R-2 and set it up with floats. The fiberglass floats were 80% of the fuselage length. The GeeBee got off the water just fine. After 10 or 12 circuits around the lake I started my landing approach and the plane unexpectedly snapped on me and went into the woods along one of the lake's shorelines. When I got it home and inspected the wreckage, I discovered both floats had taken on a considerable amount of water, changing the CG completely. Before take off I had taxied around for 4 or five minutes to take some pictures, and I believe the floats took on all the water during that time. After reviewing the float instructions, I realized I should have either put some epoxy or silicon sealant in the screw-holes attaching the undercarriage to the floats. That is my GeeBee in the float plane picture section of this website. I believe your GeeBee will be just fine, just set it up properly, and keep the speed up during your approach for landing! Good luck!
