Has anyone ever put a Kyosho Gee Bee on floats. Now you guys are going to say Im CRAZY and hay maybe Im am. But i did sucessfully put the twist 3d and a heavy trainer duraplane on floats and they fly nice! espically the twist which uses a OS 46FX. I hardly can feel the the floats on and it didnt even throw my CG off. My Kyosho Gee Bee has a Satio 72 4 Stroke and is balanced for wheels and skis. I never flew it yet. But i realize CG is critical on these birds!!. Which kind of floats would you recommend?? Please advise

Why you should use GeeBee floats, of course!!

It might just work..removing the wheels and pants and replacing with floats won't add that much weight,.....you got enough wing area, and enough power..... the main problem I foresee is that tiny fin and rudder...you will probably be lacking in directional stability...... I flew a Page GB z for a couple of years, so am familiar with the handling.....

Just one suggestion. Fly it first on wheels. If you like the handling on wheels, then put a huge ventral fin on it and a good set of 40 size foam core floats and give it a try.

And for gosh sakes don't take NONY seriously about those Gee Bee floats!

I would not bet the 75% rule applies to float length on a GeeBee. More like 120%.

Yes that was tongue in cheek !!!

I have read several books on the Granville Brothers and their planes, and don'r recall them ever putting anything on floats.... Something like the "Y" may have been suitable....

Sorry nony i meant not full scale i seen it on a rc book and if i remember right it wasnt a big geebee. maybe a little smaller then what i have. The coverpage was a white geebee (25 40 Size Im guessing) floating on water.

Two summers ago I built an Adrian Page Gee Bee R-2 and set it up with floats. The fiberglass floats were 80% of the fuselage length. The GeeBee got off the water just fine. After 10 or 12 circuits around the lake I started my landing approach and the plane unexpectedly snapped on me and went into the woods along one of the lake's shorelines. When I got it home and inspected the wreckage, I discovered both floats had taken on a considerable amount of water, changing the CG completely. Before take off I had taxied around for 4 or five minutes to take some pictures, and I believe the floats took on all the water during that time. After reviewing the float instructions, I realized I should have either put some epoxy or silicon sealant in the screw-holes attaching the undercarriage to the floats. That is my GeeBee in the float plane picture section of this website. I believe your GeeBee will be just fine, just set it up properly, and keep the speed up during your approach for landing! Good luck!

I just saw a GeeBee on floats at a float fly, not sure what brand it was but it had a Saito 100 in it and it flew good. Looked pretty wild in the air too..

Sorry guys 6 months later I answer well lets first say I had a drastic change in my life.(week after this post) My lady cheated on me (after 6 years) and I found pics of her and this guy. So I moved away and found a new life in Manitoba this fall. I managed to buy a house in Leaf Rapids and got a teaching position and tutoring for computers. Ok so thats my life I managed to just get my planes to my new home just a week ago. I found a new lake and since its winter wonder land Im back on skis now. The Twist 3d and Duraplane and seamaster flew in the past week. Its nice to back in the hobby. Anyhow just mounted some skis on the Gee Bee so the floats will have to hold off till spring. Anyhow will keep you guys posted thanks Jared
