I have a Robbe Moskito Basic, unflown as yet with all new bits on board. I did everything the book said, though the lengths given for some control rods appeared to be wrong. Book said the Tail Control rod should be 652mm long but at that length it would not even reach the tail let alone control it

I know this is a real simple question but anyways... how do I use my Pitch Gauge to set the pitch of the main rotors? What do I set them relative to?

The Book says I should aim for a basic collective range of -4 to +10 and I would like to set my pitch curve up right. I have only one heli pilot in my area and he is gonna test fly the machine for me and get me started.

Also which way should the tail blades move to push the nose left (i.e. left rudder given). When I revved the engine up enough that the blades were running well and pushed the rudder stick left the amount of draught increased some - is this right?

Also don't know if it is needed but may be of use when setting my pitch curves my setup is:

Robbe Moskito Basic
O.S. 50SxH with Zimmermann Muffler
JR X388s Tx
CSM 180 Gyro
JR 591 Servos

Thanks,

Chris

P.S. I think think this is more fun than planks even at this stage.

Chris, I'm not familiar with that model but something in you post caught my attention.

You said your tail link was way to short from what the manual suggested.

Is you tail boom in all the way???

What pitch gauge are you using?

ya didn't say which pitch guage ya got, so these are just generics.

level the heli on a work surface , use carpenter type buddle levels for this operation

level the flybar and rig a clamp to maintain level
ya want the flybar to be parrallel to the boom and the blades to be across the heli axis, ie sticking out to the sides.

now use the pitch guage on the blade, or grip, depending on guage type.
imagin that the tail blades are a little propeller, it will help you to see which way the tail will go with a given input. generally tail blades rotate so that the blade that is closest to the motor will be moving up as it goes by the tail boom.
this site may help you find other heli guys to work with

Mongo - Sorry about missing what, thinking about it is quite a vital point

I am using the K&S Pitch gauge - blade clamps in and there is a scale on the end which the needle of the blade holder points to.

Hitch-hiker - The boom was definately all the way home - length was set by the drive belt. The length of the boom itself is 640mm, you then have to have a 2 bend section and another few inches more to reach the servo.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

then, just follow the above generics, insure that the blade is in a somewhat close to proper lead/lag in the grip, as in sticking straight out from the grip, not angeling for or aft.
here is where a broke section of old blade is really handy to use in place of the full blade.

adjust control rods, or radio to get the pitch range and positions ya want.
i will not make any recomendations here, cause everyone has their own ideas where a newbie should start.

good luck

Hey Chris,

I've been trying to figure this stuff out too and here's what I see. If you can set your heli control rods so that you get the max total pitch range, adjust your servo horn's so that you're at a 90 degrees in the middle of the range, you can then set your radio so that you have different pitch ranges for different switches. So the issue, as I see it, with the pitch gauge is simply to get the pitches for the two blades to be the same while the control rods are running a full plus to minus for your ship--then set the pitch curve via radio. That way you don't have to change your ship as you want to make your heli more aggressive or add another curve.
