PS. Admiring your beauty some more it looks like you have a rather large engine in it yourself ;-) Balance it 4.25 from LE and your gonna love it.

Yea, OS 61 FX, Man it's a screamer. Havn't flown it yet as I am a little scared, lot of but time in this plane. Ran the engine in today and man does that thing scream with the pitts muffler on it. Thanks for the complement. What prop are you running on your 61?

I was running a 12x6 but today I switched to a 15x6 that I clipped down just a little, its probably like 14.5x6 now. I really like this engine/prop combo for the extra. If you have any other questions PM me.

Just want to add, That looks like a 12x8 you're going to run, Im afraid with that .61 this thing is going to be like a jet and you might have reason to be scared, it lands REALLY hot and I would suggest maybe a 13x5 for it. I orignally had a .46AX and that was lots of motor for it in the winter. Switched to the 61 once it warmed up abit.
My extra has over 250+ flights. Only 1 bird strike yet! Ripped the stab off scared me abit and broke landing gear out on landing but fiberglass fixed the weak LG problem so no worrys.

Thanks for the complements everyone. I am really looking forward to flying this plane. I am gritting my teeth now as I am not quite ready to fly this plane, skill level needs some improvement. I have only been flying since December 2004. Started with a Hanger 9 Arrow, went to a Ugly stick 60 size, then to the Pizazz, now on the Funtana 90 ( although I have ripped the landing gear out of it and it's currently on the bench). I started building this kit in February and have had it pretty mush finished for about 6 weeks now. Reluctant to put the cowl and wheel pants on knowing that I would have the strong urge to fly this plane. I settled for breaking in the engine.

Looks great! Did you use a heat gun for the finish? It seems it has few wrinkles on the leading edge, but it hard to tell from here. Anyway, if not, I recommend using the heat gun. I've just discovered it and the work it does is fabulous. It will make your model perfect.

Nice job, Don't let your peers rush you into flying it until you think you are ready. You will know when the right time is. Good luck.

Moneymaker, I think what you are seeing is reflection. I did use a heat gun and no wrinkles anywhere.
I still have plenty to do with this plane. It needs some graphics. I think I can kill another month or three just doing that among other things. Maybe I could do another run in on the engine. I mght even need to change out some of the hardware (kit stuff) to better quality products. Anyway I will not fly this plane until I am absolutely ready. I have spent too much time and energy to rush flying this plane. I would hate to loose this plane because of over confidence. I am just waiting!!

Yea, that looks better, I knew it was missing something. That was it. Pin stripe on the rudder cap is a good idea to Bruce. How'd you do that MINN??

Digger, if you have flown all those planes you will not have to worry with the extra. This was my second airplane. I started with an Avistar in November 2004 and maidened my extra christmas eve in December 2004. It's surprisingly really easy to fly, but keep your speed up on the landings. She likes to come in hot.

Minn is a professional Graphic Artist or something along those lines. Got all the good software and of course, the talent to use it.

Say Minn, give him the address for the posts where you have the missile strike on the F-86 I think it was. I think the guys would like to see that again.

Hey Digger,
If you can handle a Funtana 90 you can handle your extra! The Funtana isn't as stable as the extra. The only thing you will have to worry about is SPEED! You have complete control ove your speed! Good luck with your first flight!

Yeah I agrea. If you flew all the planes you say, then this will be a piece of cake. I had never flown one before and someone wanted me to test fly his. Of course I did and it was just so easy to fly. Tracking is very nice, no pronounced coupling for knife edge, although it could use more ruder. Than again if you look at what my flying experience is that might explain it...he he. The only plane that scares me is my Christen Eagle. Its not the flying part on that plane, but the landing.
One note on this, and other extras. They like a little speed on landings.

Being the first Kit, I am a little over cautious. I'm sure I can handle the plane, however I want to settle into the idea a little while. I would really hate to crash this plane after all the work. I would rather crash the Funtana(ARF), if I had to make a choice. But then again I ain't gonna crash. [8D]
