For all of you Kaos lovers, The Ultra Sport is nothing more than a Kaos that spent some time in the Beauty Parlor - Same great flier with good looks too!

My vote:

Single Wing - Ultra Sport (40 or 60)
Two wings - GP Super Skybolt

The Ultra Sport has a larger vertical tail and a smaller horizontal tail. It tracks better, turns better and elevator response is smoother. The larger fuselage side area and the forward canopy make it MUCH better in knife edge. It is also 10% bigger than the original Kaos, but when Great Planes redid the Kaos in the early 90's they used the Ultra Sport dies, so the newer Kaos is the same size as the Ultra Sport.

My two cents.......back in the day, the CG Falcon 56, now, the GP easy sport 40 - probably the most fun I've had with at the field...that is until 'ol dumb thumbs rekitted the plane....

------------------

Remember the original version of the Falcon 56? It was made for a .15 to .19 sized engine and either six channel reeds (REM) or galloping ghost, IIRC.

I did the bold thing and put an OS .35 R/C engine in mine. That was considered hot rodding in those days. I always replaced Goldbergs ailerons (had to cut them out of the trailing edge stock) with 1.25" or larger aileron stock. Another bold move in those days.

Later, guys began putting forties in them, then Goldberg modified the kit to fly with the larger engines without modification.

Lots of folks learned to fly on many a Falcon 56 and Senior Falcon.

Believe it or not, the Senior Falcon was designed to compete in FAI pattern and was intended to be powered with an old K&B .45. Those were the days.

During my 28 years of RC flying I have encountered several planes that gave me a great deal of pleasure flying them. The Birdi Kaos 40 seems to stand tallest in my short list of really great flying models, and I list them in no particular order other than to mention them.

Goldberg Falcon 56
Birdi Kaos 40
Sig Kougar Mk ll
GP Super Sportster 40
GP Big Stick 60
Goldberg Extra 300

Ed - another hotrod with the OS .35 was the Sterling Fledgling. It probably took a week to wipe the grin off my face. I think it was right up there with the Falcon in speed.

Another to put at the top of the list is the Midwest Sweet Stik. It could be used as a basic trainer through aerobatics training. I ended up wearing out my old K&B Torpedo .40 on one over about a 6 year span. Always regretted parting with this plane.

My all time favorite sport plane is the Andrews Quick ray: Sure would like to find a set of plans, mine was sacrificed to the airplane Gods, one fateful day.

If I could only have one plane....it would be a Kaos....

....with an OS .60 FSR in it.

Balsa Usa smoothie is my favorite sport plane powered by a rossi 46 tuned silencer. When i graduated from high school i told all the old timers at the club i needed more kits of this plane. My idol ole bob mclure from ord, nebraska gave me one of his he never flew. HE PASSED AWAY LATER ON THAT YEAR. I never flew his still have it along with the other 10 kits i got for gifts. Cheers to the greatest sport plane of all time.

Wow! Tough question.
I like the Fourstars, sticks, kaos. The goldberg kits are ok too.
Heck they are all winners in my book.

Thats a really pretty Aeromaster. If it looks good then it usually flies good. My vote for the best plane would be either the venture 60 or The World Models Super Chipmunk. My cousin has one. It was designed by Bruce Tharpe as a better flying of the Four Star 60. The World MOdels Super Chipmunk with Saito 100 will do everything you want it to do except 3D which I don't fly anyways. It's got to be the old version of the Super Chipmunk though with the wheel pants cause it looks alot prettier.

Not a bad choice in the lot. Never had a Kaos, but flew a few that belonged to friends. I personally love the Top Flite Contender. The build is straight forward, accomodates a wide range of choices for a power plant, and makes an ideal low wing trainer, everyday flyer and sport contest plane. I built and flew them in the 70's, and I'm about to put another one in the air in the next week or two powered by a Super Tigre G90. zoom zoom! Nothing against ARF's, but if you want a level of satisfaction you can only get from a plane you build yourself, the Contender will reward your efforts nicely. Builds quick, flies great, and they're cheap.
