46u, you pulled up the links for the 2-speed drive gears.

These are the 2-speed PLASTIC tranny gears that comes inside the Savage-25. And which are the gears that can be destroyed.

"This is the Replacement 39 Tooth Transmissiom...." Tower Desc.

Possibly the old or new models had/have metal trans gears.

If I didn't have a Savage-25 I wouldn't be arguing with you over something so simple. I had a Savage-21 and sold it. Bought a Savage-25 last year and have done a lot of modification to it. I changed the 2-speed tranny gears because I adjusted the wrong set screw on the 2-speed set which caused it to strip. And the second time I destroyed the gears was from pulling too many grassy hills with the slipper cluth adjusted too tight.

So if I understand what you are saying it was not the trucks fault? If I am not mistake this is where it all started? One more thing what type of spur gear are you running?

I guess there is no argument there! I all so wonder if he is running a metal spur gear? Kinda sounds like it to me but correct me if I am wrong.

No I am not running a metal spur gear (How irrelevant). I currently have the plastic 52 tooth spur gear with a 14 tooth clutchbell. It runs great. But over a period of time regardless of metal or plastic spur gear, running on grass will break the next weakest thing. The metal drive gears and differentials probably will never go out. But plastic eventually will.

Thanks for the input but I do not think it is irrelevant as I have seen people that run the metal spur which pass the breakage to the next weak point that general is the transmission that is why I asked. But as you stated the transmission was not the trucks fault.
Have a nice day.

Yes that's correct that a metal spur gear will put pressure on the next weakest thing (The plastic gears in the 2-speed tranny set to be exact. The reason I thought that statement was irrelevant because this whole forum led to a big argument whether the 2-speed gears were plastic or metal. Running a metal spur has nothing to do with whether or not the 2-speed tranny gears being plastic.

And really this forum started out a simple question about the Jato not moving through grass too well, and look what it turned into

hm....your having trouble going through grass?... that sucks...i got my jato today....broke it in in one day and everything and it go's through grass with no problems....even with no tread left from the endless power slides and donuts on the pavement....lol....my grass is almost 5 inches tall and it will take off just fine from a stand still and if you keep your speed up it just skims the top of he grass like a boat does on water.....its pretty cool...

Throttle control has a lot to do with grass running. It is harder to get traction. Once you get moving just try to keep a solid connection with the ground. Of course it is really tough on grass, but just do the best you can. With high power vehicles such as the Jato it is easy to lose your traction.

I've also found that whether or not a 2wd rc will run in grass has alot to do with the type of grass you are running in. My rusty has always ran through the grasses where I typically drive without any issues at all, but the other day I was at my one friends house and it wouldn't run in his yard at all even though he had his grass well trimmed. The grass at his house seemed much thicker and stiffer than what I usuallu run on and my rusty was basically saddlebagging itself on the grass and would run only a few feet and then stop. So if you can't get your 2wd rc to run on your lawn, you can try cutting it shorter and see if that helps, or add some weight to your RC, but if neither of those helps you may be SOL.

Slicks have about the same traction as the jato tires in grass. Get some step pins and you'll be set and that truck without a doubt has the power to get through the grass.

Thunderbird I loved my trx pro .15 that was in my nitro rustler nothing could blow that motor up . After 4 gallons through 1 motor I wanted to see if full throttle running for 25 seconds straight and about a half handfull of dirt in the car
