Joe-

Great choice! Couple of things. In answer to your question about when a type of CA is not specified, if nothing is specified, I usually use medium. I second the vote for a razor saw. It is absolutely essential and only costs a couple bucks. You can get the miter box to go with it, as mentioned. I haven't bought a miter box. I just eyeball things and have done OK. A scroll saw is not necessary at all.

When it comes time to cover, take a look at MinnFlyer's instructions and video here on RCU. Invest in a good covering iron and heat gun. Practice a little on some scrap pieces and don't be afraid, if you screw something up, to rip it off and start over.

Look forward to seeing your progress!

-Scott

Edit: Sorry, that post was a little long in the making. I see in the last half hour others said pretty much everything I just said.

Joe

Excellent! And bring the partially completed plane to the next club meeting. Both new and old members love to see works in progress!

I picked up an X-Acto metal miter box and saw at lunch...no more struggling to mangle a strait cut on the balsa sticks. It was 14 bucks at the LHS.....certainly cheaper than buying a scroll saw. Thanks for the tip!

FYI I forgot to mention that I inventoried all the parts and labeled each of the balsa sheets & parts last night. Not a single piece missing!

Don't hurry too much txaggie08, it will slow you down in the long run.

MountaineerFan36 has saved himself a bunch of trips to the LHS and having to wish he had a different glue on hand in the middle of the night. He can do it right this way. Of course, not everyone can drop that much on the counter at one time and we all must adjust accordingly.

Just remember that I believe he said in the other thread that now his wife gets to match his spending on her stuff, or something along those lines.

I actually get an exemption on the reciprocal spending agreement. My wife told me last night that this plane will classify as my fathers day gift! Man I love that woman

Well then, should have gone for a 120 size! j/k That is nice. She deserves a new vacuum cleaner for next mother's day. Now I know you know better than that.

Ok guys first of many newbie questions.

I've positioned and glued in the main root rib...I'm now have all the remaining ribs positioned and ready to glue.

My question is:

Is it ok to glue along the joints to attach the ribs to the main spar without physically removing the ribs (pic 1) or should I physically remove each rib to get glue on the underside of the slots that fit into the spar? (pic 2) I've done this with the first rib and it is difficult to get repositioned before the glue starts to set up.
