Status: offline 		Have heard some are flying the GP Extra 40 with a 90 4stroke.... why does this sound like a temptation bound for a heap at the end of the runway? Who has experience with this combo? Details please.

Status: offline 		I dont have experience with this particular combo, but on the 3D planes like the Funtanas and UCanDo's people put insane sized engines in them. CG would be the main issue and throttle management would be really important. I wouldnt buy this motor for this plane but if I had it lying around I might try it. You would have 3D power but I am not sure if this extra has big enough control surfaces for 3D.

Status: offline 		EG. My brother just maidened his Funtana 40 with the recomended engine for the Funtana 90 on it, a Saito 100. It flew beautifully he loves it and it used to be a POS. Now he loves to fly it.

The Extra has never been a good 3D plane unless serious modifications were made; I am looking for more sensible acrobatics and maybe even an IMAC sequence...... I do have a 91 surpass sitting on the shelf and an Extra300 .40 size new in the box..... I am just trying to talk myself out of buying a Saito82; @ $249, it gets expensive. The weight of the OS 70 makes it not particularly attractive and I will use only 4strokes.

Status: offline 		i have a OS 91 in my 40 size cub for towing and without a glider behind it its a blast to fly. do touch and goes at 1/4 throttle and it looks scale, or i crank it up and hover my cub... people always go crazy when my j3 goes vertical... its a blast.

Status: offline 		I had an Evolution .61 in a Great Planes .40 ARF. Flew terrific...until a gentle dive at full-throttle separated the horizontal stabilizer from the aircraft. If you are going to over power this model...flying wires would be a must. Seal the hinges. Strengthen the pushrods ....they flex too much.

Status: offline 		I'm going to be different and advise against it. I think you will find that the 90 will be a waste of power with excess weight. I had a .91 fourstroke in my 46 UCD and the only time I used full power was straight up and that was a 3D machine which the extra is not. I think a good 60 2C or 80 4C would be a better match. Being able to hover at 1/4 throttle is just a waste.

Status: offline 		I have seen the great planes 40 size extra with the 91 2 stroke, and the guy loved it. Very fast. But the thing about a 91 four stroke would be notover revving it, and make sure you have enough ground clearance for the prop your using.

Status: offline 		This may sound crazy, but.........several years ago, I flew a GP Extra .40 for a while with an old .48 4-stroke and it hauled it nicely. Keep in mind I was still a fairly new pilot and didn't get real crazy with it, but I must say it was quite a performer for having such a small engine.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the input; I am going to finish the present project and move ahead with the 90 surpass and see what happens. I am looking for a Saito80 while I build to see if one appears for a good price; if not, the 91 surpass gets the job.
