Hey gang,
I have flown nitro on and off again for about 5 years, never giving myself time to get good at it, The other day I purchased a Smartech Skylarh rtf and in 3 days the tail motor went.Totally cremated the brushes. Thought it took the mixerboard too as the arming light failed to come on,Since then I have connected a low voltage motor(out of a walkman) to see if it needed to fill a connection to arm or something, well after pidling with it for a day or so, the arming led comes on regularly in about 10 seconds and power goes to the tail mopter, but the motor doesn't have the rpm as the stock motor did, Question is what motor would best suit me? Give me the rpm i need and won't burn out in 1-3 days?

scottyfusion...you can get them for 4-5 bucks...You lucky..... Here they are $9.95 a piece. Which is freakin rediculas. That little N30-N40 motor probably wholesales in bulk for .30 cents. Im currently looking for a wholesaler for them. Im gonna start a tail motor business...LOL
Even at .50 cents a piece thats 50 bucks for a 100. If you sold them at 5 bucks a piece, thats 500 bucks. Hell of an investment if you ask me.

So far my 4th tail motor is going strong, and not showing any problems. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Some of these comments are kinda funny coming from guys that burn through a $20/gallon of nitro every hour of flight time if not less. If I can get a few hours of flight time for 8-10 bucks, Im taking it over the mess and cost of Nitro. Just my 2 cents. Count me in on the 50 cent motors. I just bought 2 at 8.99 a piece. I can live with that if I get 30-40 flights out of them.

HEHEHEHEHE....I havent burned any nitro in 6 months....at least not any of my nitro Now if someone else payed for it....i'll be happy to burn it.

I dont know. Nitro has kinda lost its appeal to me. I like the glow planes, the sound of the engine, but the slimer stuff is getting so expensive, its just not worth the trouble.

Not to mention I have drag 90lbs of gear, along with the planes out to the field. Of course have both a AMA membership and the club membership. I get out there and there are already 10 people all trying to fly at the same time. I might get 2-3 flights in, then I have to pack all that stuff back up and come home, and then spend a hour unpacking all that stuff and cleaning up the goo off the airplane. Phoooey on that.

With the electrics. I grab 2 helis, and 3 planes, transmitter and batteries. I take two steps out my back door, turn one on, fly till I run out of battery packs, land pick them up and walk inside into airconditioning, put the batteries on charge, and sit down to enjoy a coke, and snicker as I think of the guys spending the next hour with a bottle of 409 or windex cleaning goo, while Im flying on my freshly recharged batteries.

Then while they are all sitting on the couch exhausted from the chore of lugging all that gear around, and cleaning goo, Im out under the street light at night...still flying.

And the best part about it....It didnt cost me one red cent in fuel to fly all day.

bdavison, you are 100% correct! I used to fly nitro planes(boards) a long time ago, NOT anymore, I would
NEVER go back to nitro, electrics all the way...

After removing channel 4 from the revo-mixing board can the main rotor esc still work or do I need to replace that as well? I can't get the main rotor motor to move. I am putting in a CSM 200 lite HH gyro with a CC-10 esc for the tail.

Honestly I dont know because I ran into the same problem. I really wanted to use the 4-in-1 as a receiver so I could still use the stock radio...I've got JR stuff(positive shift) So I use my XP6102 with a GWS 6ch RX and PG-03 gyro... Hopefully Scotty can give us the answer.

radobahn, what is involved in setting up the correct revo-mix within your JR tranny?; I am
assuming that you have needed to go that route.

I have the feigao tail motor and CC 10 controller. I am also using a Castle 20P ESC for the main rotor. Both ESC have BEC. Should the servo connection for the CC 10 to channel 4 only get the signal line and not power?

jctpro, have you flown the Blade yet with that brushless setup? In my setup
I have a GWS ICS-300 brushed main motor ESC and a T.R.E.C/mix kit
brushed ESC controlling the tail where the TREC ESC is the "authoritative"
ESC in the system, what I mean by "authoritative" is the the BEC for the
main motor ESC is disabled while TREC's has not. When I get in the
Castle Creations Phoenix 10 and Feigao I am just going to put them in
place of TREC and make the Castle Creations Phoenix 10 the "authoritative"
ESC in the system, just as TREC was. I will NOT fly with the 4-in-1
controller. I have the GWS PG-03 gyro in channel 4 of the receiver.

I am still setting up the brushless tail. Looks like I will use the CC10 as the authoritive ESC and BEC. Looks like I need to cut the red wire on the Pixie 20P ESC controlling the main rotor brushed motor. Parts should be here in a few days and we will see how it works.
