Air retracts were optional ($100) at the time I bought mine about 3+ years ago.

If i recall correctly, version 3 also came with air-up spring down retracts, version 2 had air-up air-down.

Let me know if you want me to take real close pics of my version 3 cockpit.

Doug.

While i failed to closely inspect the retracts i am fairly certain that they were air-up and air-down. The manual also shows that setup. I won't cut the box open again to verify that but i am quite sure they were au-ad. Also, while dry fitting the components i did notice that the front alignment post on the vertical stab (i think it was the front one, the one without the locking screw) was about an inch short of the hole it is supposed to fit into. That is no problem, i will simply have to drill another hole and maybe reinforce the area a little but that may help indicate which version it is. This kit was put together from spare parts and small issues like that are no problem. I was quite happy and grateful that i was even able to get it. Everything else appears to be a perfect match. Any pics of the cockpit assembly would be very much appreciated.

My Version two retracts are air up spring down.

Looking for a canopy. I'm thinking of trying to make them.

Actually, i have a canopy and the cockpit pan. I do not have the canopy frame. That is what i need. If you make some i would be happy to take one off your hands.

The frame is painted on the inside. Mine had a cockpit and the Canopy. I'm looking for a Canopy for Version two. I'm thinking of taking the one I have and creating a mold of it.

The original retracts that CERMARK supplied and recommended were Air up & Spring down.

I just had to cut the box open again and look, i have air up-air down units. They are sharp looking though! I used au-ad Robarts for years and don't remember ever doing a belly landing due to lg failure. They are nice looking retracts. I'm sure they will work just fine. All i need to do is come up with a canopy frame to get this thing built. I won't be starting on it for at least a couple of weeks so i have time to either find one or fabricate one by then.

With regard to landing gear installation, be advised, the mounting plates are inherently weak. Reinforcement with additional plywood is strongly suggested. I published a build log and a detailed procedure I came up with to strengthen that part of the aircraft.

It is located at www.ricktressler.com.

Other project is complete and will be flying in a couple of hours, hopefully. Now i can start on the F-16. Looking forward to getting this thing built. I'll probably start on it today when i return from the field.

OK, the fun begins. Looking back in the thread Steven Chao noted that version 3 had a latch type canopy. That's mine so i will move on assuming that i have version 3.

OK, retract mounts beefed up and gear installed. I am working on the stabilators now. The aluminum tubes are quite tight in the bushings. I certainly will not do anything to bore them out so the only option i know of is to lubricate them a bit. Any suggestions here? I have no doubt that my servos will be growling if i don't do something to loosen them up a little. Also, anyone made the stabilators functional and was it worth it? My Futaba 10C can make them operational.

Hi ft, I would use some lube spray designed for garage doors. Not the oil based ones the ones used on the rubber seals to slide better. Can't remember the name of it... v.

The build is going fairly well, slow but well. Stabilators are nice and smooth now and installed. Vertical stab and rudder is installed. Retracts are installed and plumbed but when i mounted the engine i realized that the muffler was pointing directly at the right main wheel well and i didn't think to fuelproof the wood retract mounts and former. I assume that i can expect some exhaust mess getting in there. Have i assumed correctly? I hate to remove all those air lines and have to fish them back through the fuse but i guess i have no choice.

Consider installing a diverter on the muffler as well.

I thought about that and probably will. I hate using them though.

Sure, no problem. I flew mine about one season, then it has been a hangar queen ever since. I don't get enough time to fly and this summer was the worst for that. I need to be on top of the old game before I pull that out of the basement. I have a couple pylon planes and some other aerobatic ships, but the 16 is unique. It is also fast with a Dub Jett .90. It's a handful.

OK, took a little less that two months to build. I'm happy with that. Maiden scheduled for tomorrow morning and weather is looking beautiful in southwest Florida. Did a quick build on the canopy frame but i build to fly not to show. If i clock at 125 or better with my brand new Jett 90BSE tomorrow i'm happy. Got her all broken in and ready to fly. Video posted shortly. (if maiden is successful that is)
