it'll fly IMAC AND 3D. It'll probably feel lighter on its wings too

Do you guys think this plane will fly much different than a funtana90s? I have one with a saito 150s.

If you think it will fly different, how so?
thanks Dave

You will be able to 3D it and fly IMAC with the same set up. I like my F90 for 3D, but am sure this Giles is much better all around. The F90 is $199 to my door and the Giles is $404 to my door--It is not a fair comparison as they really are in 2 different leagues. I would run the same motor in both of them--OS1.6FX with cline or perry pump.

BTW, my millage with the 1.6FX and VP30 Perry Pump(on a 12.8 pound plane) is about 50% better than what Chris is getting (I think he said 9min for 16oz). He must have his left stick very high up a lot.

Guys,
The Giles is a better overall flyer than the Funtana .90....I have flown this plane a few times with the OS 1.60 ( Hovermasters plane actually ), and I HAD a Funtana .90. I flew the Funtana around for about a month, and one day just pulled my stuff out, and sold it...wasnt really impressed with it. The Funtana is a floater, and although it flys ok, it just doesnt seem to do any one thing really well.
The first time I flew the Giles, I liked it. I am not a 3-D flyer....I like to just fly "clean" ( kinda like pattern ), but can do a few 3-D manuvers, and was really comfortable with this plane from the first flight! Its really smooth, and knife edges great.
Having flown the plane, my opinion is you cant go wrong buying this one........

GPSpacewalker,

Dude, you can compete with this plane easily. It totally owns the F90. even though its about twice as expensive, your paying for a great plane.

O yeah, i get 9 minutes on a 16oz tank.. haha, but im not running any type of pump. I will be putting a 24oz tank in her.

Chris

I hope you don't think I was saying that the F90 is a better value--I was just trying to make the point that the F90 was not intended to compete with the Giles. I have no doubt that this Giles is the best plane of this size to be had.

BTW, I have found that a metered fuel system on the FX1.6 allows the high and low to be leaned out and the motor responds very favorably.

Yes, the VP30 works very well on the 1.6FX.

Alrighty then. Got one on order from OMP. Saw the ARF kit at Joe Nall at the OMP booth with John Drake. Had to sell the EF 87" Yak (long story), so ordered the Giles. Thought they were built in the same factory as EF's / QS' Yaks just by looking at the components. Turns out that's the case!

So, the plan is to gut my OMP 80" Edge with the MVVS 2.15 with pipe and hang it and all the other components on the Giles. The Edge weighs a dead even 12 lbs and has plenty of power. I think the MVVS puts out right at 4 hp and 35 lbs of thrust (according to ThrustHp.) However, with the 22 x 6 prop, top speed is pretty slow at 42mph, so I don't think throttle management will be worse than the OMP. The only real trick will be getting the header pipe around to the pipe tunnel. The pipe is going to extend well past the length of the tunnel, I suspect.

I know the OMP guys, but who is the lead person with Ultra R/C?

Doug

My I.Q. test came back negative.

I think your Thrust calculator is very optomistic, more like 20-23 pounds of thrust with that engine. If it could put out 35 pounds of thrust we would not need 100cc engines on our 33% aircraft. People should throw away those thrust calculators, or take of 35 to 40 percent off before quoting them. Just my 2 cents worth.

I won't argue with your opinion the thrust calcs are high. That's why I cited the name of the program to infer their numbers, not mine. I'm not the one who created the program, but I have no other easy resource to do comparisons. Besides, it's static thrust and shows nothing of thrust in forward flight. Realistically, I am looking for the 2:1 plus mark with the MVVS.

I will have to consider this airplane as I just picked up a YS 140FZ and it will need a home.
From what I have read this plane looks like alot of fun and a good flyer.

Been following this thread, and on the list for one. Will use the OS 1.60FX, Perry VP-30 pump, pipe setup.

Sounds like a VERY impressive airplane, guys.

It *could* just be the first REAL "Pattern/IMAC" capable performer out there that will be completely legal in BOTH !!!! This will be FUN !!!!
