Status: offline 		It sounds as if the shoes are to light for the springs or the springs are to heavy either way. You can try to ruff up the inside of the clutch bell to get the shoes to grip better. But the best thing to do is like you said get springs and shoes with a known weight.

While you are waiting for parts you can work on that center diff setup. Like I'm one to talk I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the CVD's. Getting close though trying to decide between T-maxx hubs or buggy hubs. I can do either one relatively easy.

I have come close to doing the same thing with my temp gun and I have stepped on it more than once. If your LHS doesn't have any you should be able to get one from Radio Shack (electronics hobby store).

Glad to here that there isn't anything broken yet. Really the only weak parts on the truck is the diff cups and CVDs and you fixed those.

Status: offline 		I just did a bit of a search as to which clutch shoes and springs to get for my new .28. Almost unanimously, the Mugen alloy shoes and Mugen 1.1mm springs were considered the best. They arrived today and its almost a shame nobody will see them, they are a work of art, amazing finish quality.

yea i scuffed up the c/b while i was sorting the servo. it had a black lining in it from the shoes... suggests the springs are too heavy? either way i will get some alloy shoes, probably have some breakages then...

hmm that centre diff... i need to buy a few bits for it still - ofna tank, front diff casing, couple of diffs and gears, gear set for my spare hi torque servo etc. more cash to part with... i will do what i can with what parts i do have, im gonna have to back off on the spending for a bit, the mt isnt quite finished yet!

doh - of course!! radioshack is the equivalent of maplins here, just down the road... will look tomorrow.

yea nothing broken... yet... just wait til this motor hooks up... on another note tho, i ran it on rough gravel today for a bit, and those tyres are still gripping on that stuff, really good all round these brick pins. its turning in very well under quite hard braking too and starting to oversteer nicely on the way out - clutch slips too much to hold the slide tho... i set the suspension up with a little neg camber and a touch of toe in on the front, and as square as i could get it at the rear. no idea what weight shock oil or the weight of my springs are tho!! but it works well so far.

Status: offline 		It sounds like the springs are not allowing the shoes to fully engage. Either the motor has to much torque for the shoes to hold or the springs are too heavy. Alloy shoes will fix the problem but clutch bell wear will increase. If you can, try to use a vented clutch bell to help disipate the heat.

Status: offline 		its the only bell i have steel gears on, and they are fixed pinions... will have to drill some holes to ventilate it. good point that.

theres a little bit of wear on them now, nothing to worry about tho.

Status: offline 		The shoes and springs I got from Nitro Models of Earby. The shoes were £15 and the springs were £2. The delivery was £3 and took two days from ordering til I got em this morning.
As for the engine, I got myself an RB TM728 for the Savage, leaving the S25 rattling around doing nowt.

Status: offline 		Thats the fellas. Putting everything together today. Seems a shame to stick the old flywheel on there though. Might have to find a nice new shiny one and a better pipe/manifold set up to 'finish' the overhaul!

yea shiny bits man! nah dont worry about it - u should see my os pipe... its had a hammering, just go for practical stuff mate, if it happens to be shiny then thats a bonus.

Status: offline 		PJ, when you put your .28 together, which clutch nut did you use? Was it the one from the CEN? The only reason I ask is because I have been putting all the bits on the RB this afternoon and when it came to putting the clutch shoes on, the springs wouldn't seat in the groove properly! They are a very snug fit in the shoes and there is no play to push them down properly. Just wondering if I would have any more luck using a CEN clutch nut, or even if it would fit.

Status: offline 		not certain, but pretty sure that any 1/8 clutch nut will do it... unless anyone knows otherwise...?

i used one designed for threaded crankshaft engines - see here - and cut the end off and drilled it thru, works fine - i think...

just checked the springs on the cen clutch, they are loads lighter that the ones in the .28, and i mean loads! how do urs compare?

Status: offline 		Yeah, tons lighter. I have the standard ones from the S25 but if I fitted them, the engine would be idling with the ali shoes in constant contact with the clutch bell...not good. By the way cheers for the heads up on those clutch nuts, two of them on their way to me now. Hopefully when they arrive I can finally get the engine running. It's a beaut incidentally, RB sure know how to put a motor together!!

Status: offline 		were the standard springs for the s25 designed for teflon shoes? if so do u still need them?

im thinking i have springs for ali shoes fitted with my teflon shoes, my lhs guy is more of a plane bloke than cars/trucks...
