Well I am just about finished with my Sukhoi. I am not impressed with this Goldberg kit, some parts did not fit well and most die cut plywood parts were not cut all the way through. I (?) made a serious blunder in building the wing, when I finished the wing would not fit over the fuselage. I have been biulding for over 30 years and never had this problem. I built the wing over the plans but the space between the two #2 ribs was not wide enough. Goldberg provided spacers to make sure the ribs were spaced correctly but not between the #2 ribs which is the most critical dimension on the whole airplane. I was not able to salvage the wing so I ordered a wing kit which came with 4-5 parts missing. I called Goldberg and they quickly sent replacements, however they still missed some parts and sent extra wing tip blocks, go figure!

So much for the bad news. The finished product is looking good. I opted to use the ABS cowl and the kit supplied landing gear but may replace these later. I plan on using a Saito 120 with a Pitts type muffler. This is the first plane I covered with Ultracote and it is great covering material.

Currently installing the radio, then check CG (I moved as much stuff up front as I could, see e.g. battery location in attached photo) and she should be ready to fly.

Will attach photos if I can figure out how.

I had a problem with the wing also. It seems the plywood ribs are not cut right, and they push the main spar and the leading edge forward out of position. I didn't notice it till it was impossible to fix, so I had to live with it. It required cutting the TE a little to fit into the fuselage. Other than that, it has gone together nicely. I would have seen this problem had I assembed all the ribs on the spars in two stacks. I would then have seen the mismatch in the lengths and could have fixed it then.

The abs parts are very sturdy, but the material tears very easy, so proper reinforcement is a must.

Any ideas on torque requirements for the servos? That's next on my list.

I have a friend flying one on JR DS811 (54 oz. in) all around. I am planning on using HiTec HS5475HB (61 oz. in) on ailerons and elevator and a HS5645-MG (168 oz. in) on the rudder.

Looks like we are all very close in the building dept
One of the key areas that I am working on right now is the tail section and the linkage to the elevators. I would be interested in seeing what others have done! Here is mine:
I opted to join the two elevators together, trying to cut down on weight. I used a carbon shaft with 4-40 hardware. Note the support for the shaft at the rear of the fuse. I also mounted the elevator servo closer to the rear of the fuse, need a bit of tail weight, big motor! Pull pull on the rudder eats up all the space in the fuse as well for the elevator linkage.
Here are some pics!

My thought on the tail servos was somewhat simple. I am thinking about moving the rudder servo to the tail and using the stock setup on the elevator. Nothing wrong with pull, pull, but I think I need some weight back there as well. I'm not going for 3D, so extreme throws are not an issue. I used the stock elevator setup on my Ultimate and never had any trouble with it at all.

I went ahead with the separate elevators driven by two Futaba 3010 servos (72 oz-in). On the rudder I went with the pull-pull setup but instead of using two control horns per instructions I used Dubro HD pull-pull linkage and the kit supplied cables. The rudder servo is a Futaba 3305 (99 oz-in).

I also drove in 4-5 screws into the firewall mount not being too sure about the strength of the box (did use all the 45 deg balsa support from the back that I could get in there.

My photos are not getting through, not sure why.

Once you decide to reply on a thread and you click post reply, at the bottom left corner you will see "click here to upload"
The rest is self explanatory

Stock Goldberg elevator setup on an Extra flying IMAC was unsuccesful

I pinned my landing gear block, wing mounting block firewall etc etc......

I have tried that twice and both times got a "page not available" type error message. I'll try it one more time with this post.

What do you mean unsuccesful? Too sloppy? Uneven throws? Too much flexing?

CTEI,
If your getting that message it means your photos are too big. Either Shink them or post one at a time. I have XP and I attach my pics to an e-mail there is an option to shink em. I do that then save them out of the e-mail into a posting folder. That is the quickest I have found.

Hughes,
Not really sure where your putting that servo in back. Can you give some pics outlineing that? Nice color choice by the way. Do you have a covering scheem your going for? I would like to see.

I am going two servos in back with a pull-pull rudder. JR Sport Pack more than likely. Bruning Can you still work that deal with T?
