I really feel as though the aileron servo mounts are not satisfactory for mounting the servos for todays flying styles, at least mine LOL I made a few modifications to my structure, hoping to add strength, longevity and also to seal the wing. I fly off a grass runway and might even entertain flying this one off the water. Hope you can see what I did in these pictures. Nothing too fancy!
EDIT: I have not sanded the wing yet, take it easy on me

I am going to seal the inner servo area and then paint it. Once the servo has been mounted I will use a flexible sealant (small bead of silicone) to go around the servo, sealing the wing. I will not be installing a cover plate or anything on this one, too much work
Would like to see what others have done here before I finish mine! Steve

I decided to mount the elevator servos in the tail. I have staggered them in Z which will allow me to use a conventional Y harness. The rudder servo is in the stock location, without the riser blocks. My finishing materials will be here tomorrow, so I'm guessing about 3 weeks to first flight.
Couple of questions.
What type of hinges are you using? Are you going to use foam tape on the wing saddle? mine is a little loose up front.

Well Huges I am going to follow in your steps on the ailEron Servos... Needs a little reenforcment. I have a question about there installation however. Do you have to cut out a bit of the sheeting to get them to fit? It looks like I am going to have to. That being the case bring me to conclude that unless you build an access cover you will not have a clean looking bottom of the wing. That is where your going to paint it correct?
Not24, I was just going to use the stock hinges. What were you thinking of using. I am good at stealing ideas from others to make my plane better... My wing sits a little loose as well I was going to add a piece of Ply to lock it in however some foam tape would do just as well...
I got all the tail surfaces covered tonight. I will post some pics later of the progress.

I use CA hinges and covering. All my surfaces are sealed (both sides) with Ultrakote. I dry fit everything as I go so my wing fits per, very good I would use foam tape if need be for sure. If you have a gap between the front of the wings and the fuse, build it up with some balsa sheeting/filler and then cover.
My servos fit nice, I believe I did have to trim a hair off the sheeting. If I go with floats I may look at a cover. Be sure to post pics of yours if you go that route. The only thing I don't like about a cover, it would not be flush with the wing surface!

Well I just ordered a Thunder Tigre 120 for the motor with a pitts, and a JR 120 Sport Flight pack to Handle this beast... I think 120 oz tq on everything should be pleanty... I gotta post some pics I have all the tail and Fuse covered now. Just gotta do the wing and paint the Cowl and belly pan. Gear and Tail Wheel From Graphtech should be here by the end of the week. I just got a quote from a Friend to do a Graphic "Ballistic" on one wing and "INSANITY" On the other... We will see if I can work that in... Getting Close.

Sounds like a keeper Looking foward to seeing it! We are at roughly the same place in the build. I am running a 120 2 Stroke with Pitts as well! Post some pictures man

Hi guys. I saw your thread here and thought I'd drop in. I built the 1st edition of this plane two years ago and last summer was its first flights. I have an OS 1.60 FX turning a 18x6 master airscrew prop on it and its performance is just outstanding. This is a very smooth flying airplane. I've had trouble with the gear mount in the wing but have since found a solution with removing the plastic belly pan and building a wood one. The cowling also broke on me over the summer so I just recieved a fiberglass specialties cowling. just need to paint it and will be ready again.
Anyway, your planes are lookin good.

My only issue with the plane is I used standard servo's in the wing and it's just not enough at full throttle. But with that 160 your vertical is unlimited.

I'm at work right at the moment so you'll have to wait till tomorrow for pics. As far as the weight goes I'm not exactly sure. I had originally put the saito 1.50 in it but me and that engine had issues
