I would look at the MVVS 77, setup for rear exhaust, it may be easier to route your pipe and you will still be able to swing 11 and 12 inch props with authority.

I was thinking in terms of ground clearance and overall speed. With a 91 it will go straight up and straight down at the same speed (Mach 2 LOL). Now this wouldn't bother me too much, I just don't think you guys that fly these modern birds would be able to keep up with something like that. LOL

Seeing as how the Aurora was designed for .61 two-strokes, and the many Auroras I saw fly back in the day all flew with authority on them, anything bigger than a piped .61 is simply excess horsepower. That's not to say it wouldn't be more fun, just unnecessary for this plane, as it isn't meant to be a 3D/AA ship.

Remember that bigger engines: 1) weigh more = heavier airplane
2) cost more = less money for fuel
3) need more prop clearance = longer/heavier landing gear and no retracts
4) drink more fuel = less money for airplanes

...all of which tend to offset the advantage of having more power in the first place.

Do we really need an Aurora that can prop hang?

Rick

The OS 61 VF was always one of my favorite engines, back when OS made a good engine. If I ever find a new piston and liner I will rebuild mine. I would love to hang it on the front of my UFO when I build it.
