    wldhair,

The wind isn't all bad with this plane. Where you would normally be used to floating the Nexstar in to land, the stang will need a little speed on approach. It flies rather well in the wind, I maidened mine with gusts up to 50mph. That was alittle extreme but 10-15mph winds will be no problem with this plane. Good luck on the maiden..

    Shane

SHould i give the rudder more throw? ir leave it to the book. I would like it to turn sharper on the ground.

Also what rubber wheel are you guys using on the rear. I'm not much for the foam one since ive read alot of it flat spotting, so i always leave it in the air. I dont want todo a bunch of mods to this plane since its my learner. Maybe after some flight time i can build another one to my liking.and have less battle scars.

You should check out the Sullivan tail assembly. Its 4 screws and a spring, and presto, its installed. No serious mod needed other than cutting the original tail wire flush with the rudder. I'm using a 1" rubber tail wheel.

Increase the rudder throw to 2" or so. It gives it great turning on the ground, and if you someday want to try stall turns or knife edges, you will need the extra travel.

One trick I learned, taxi with your elevator all the way in the "climb" position. It seems to add some pressure to the tail wheel and increase the steering abilities.

thanks Pit viper I've heard alot of pros and cons about this plane . I guess I'll find out this summer . I think maybe I should fly the Nexstar with all "aids" off for awhile then decide on when to launch the Mustang

Tom, it is a very docile plane after you get rid of the jidders... lol You'll really enjoy it once you get a few flights in. I miss mine..

Tom, Shane is right - very docile plane. There is only a couple of things you have to look out for on this one is, don't bank too steeply going slow around corners, like any low wing plane it might drop a bit -freaking you out. and try not to let it get too far out because it can be a bit hard to see, especially when it is cloudy out. I haven't had the training gear on mine for a long time now and I cannot really rememer how it handled with it except that it was slower and more forgiving. I only flew it twice with the training stuff on it and in the box it went.
I have a Dave Patrick extra 330L, a GP revolver, Had an CG ultimate, the mustang PTS, and I fly my son's Nextstar ALOT. Of these planes, Obviously I like the Extra the most but for getting 5 or more flights a day relaxing and having a whole lot of fun the Mustang comes in FIRST PLACE. If I ever crash it, I will be on the phone within hours ordering a new one - YES, I like it that much. When you are ready you will probably say the same thing. It is kindof funny that of all of the people that I have talked to about this plane only one person didn't like it and that is who I bought it from!!!! LOL He said that it was too fast and small for him and so he replaced it with a Senior Kadet of all things.
    Good Flying,
    Jeff

Really!!! 35mph sustainable winds with gusts up to 50mph. And why is that so unbelievable? I may be alot of things, but a liar isn't one of them. Just because there are those of you that think a fart is too windy doesn't mean the rest of us let a little weather stop us. For your info, this was my very 1st plane and had gone down after the 3rd or 4th flight due to a bad pack, I only buddy boxed it once or twice before it happened. H9 replaced the plane. I waited for a nice day to do the maiden on the 2nd but it was early spring and the wind is very common here. The maiden consisted of a Saito.72 and retracts. Which at the time were the first retracts installed in this plane. We went out after waiting for a month or more and decided we were going to do it. Oh and just for the sake of argument, I will edit the "VIDEO" down slightly so I can post it for you. For the time being, here is a pic of the plane just in case there is any doubts on that as well. More to come...

Here's one where it was about 35*F. Again weather not a factor...

Shane, I'm not going to call you a liar as I don't think you are and your very helpul to people. I think I've seen you state this a couple of times and have often questioned it myself, but let it go. For one, I've asked other experienced flyers about your statement and everyone was incredulous about it. I know since I bought an anemometer, that everyone over estimates wind speed. So how did you determine wind speed? And I know from watching a variety of aircraft in a variety of different winds, that I have to believe you are mistaken or there is something else going on like high altitude or something. I also haven't come across in the forums, anyone else stating that they have ever flown in such winds. And all this with a Mustang PTS which loves to wind vane in the wind.

Just looking at the Beufort wind scale land descriptions for comparative purposes.

35 MPH winds: Moderate Gale: Whole trees in motion. Effort needed to walk against the wind.
50 MPH: Strong Gale: Light structure damage.

So please, you've made an incredible statement that I think is inaccurate, but would love to see it backed-up.

I'll leave that for you folks to sort out 50 does seem a tad high for 7lbs, but it would be a hoot I'll bet. pts as a harrier into the wind !

But hub did mention one thing. The pts is a little more prone to wind vane than a more scale(ish) plane w/ a rounded narrow fuse,
the fuse sides are rather large and they are flat, square cornered. ( the H9-60 is the same, the H9-1.20 is more scale )But its no worse than other designs out there. You'll notice it on the top of large loops when they are not dead center into the wind direction, which is rare, for me anyway:-) BUT you have a rudder to bring her back on line. Doesn't need much.

    Forecast Sat & Sun....rain aarrrrgggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!

wldhair= normal is: knees knocking on first few flights (it kinda funny & still happens on occasion) Be cautious but don't fear it, it is tame. Keep it slow until you learn to react & eventually you'll be proactive. I mean, you will be flying it, not just directing it.
