i called horizon today and they told me to sent it in for them to check it out. Going to box it up tonight. If it was my fault id buy arf and fix this one as you said just to learn. But this wasnt my fault. so im hope horizon does the right thing.

Man I want to add retracts to my PTS. I wouldn't know the first thing about adding them though! Anybody that's done them wanna trade entire wings???? Anyway, just checking in, mine has about 40 flights on it and still holding strong. I also really love that sliding cockpit, any how to's on that?

I really need to get some decal sheets and a nice printer to make girlie decals for the cowl, you know 50's style women scantily clad! I really wanna change the scheme, no offense to mr. ohr!

Thanks for the pointers, thats pretty much what I did, but I used my wife instead of the table, which eliminated the need for the clamp... although the clamp might have made the whining about time a little less noticable

    Now thats funny !

    Patboone7,
google "pinup" or "WW2 nose art ", something like that, there is a ton of pictures out there.

I used a clear decal sheet from Staples. Avery brand. Can't remember the number, sorry.

Use the printer from your pc, set it on high detail, picture. Let it dry for a hour or so, then spray it with clearcoat. Cut it out & trim with scissors.

Its a little thicker than store bought Major Decals brand, but looks good. Good idea to clearcoat it after its in place, keeps the fuel goop away from
the sticky side. Doesn't need much, just a quick spray to seal the edges.

Testors makes a decal kit, but I have never tried it, probably just avery decal paper anyway....

None yet. I still have to add the servo and the pushrods to the canopy. Right it's just mounted and I put a screw in it to keep it closed while flying. Do a search you may be able to come up with some threads that others have done. Maybe I'll get around to doing a how-to one day.

Well the forecast for tomorrow is "partly cloudy , High of 66 , winds 5 to 10 mph I'm thinking I'll take the Nexstar and the P-51. If things go well maybe we'll put the mustang in the air . I hope my instructor shows up , couldn't get ahold of him tonite .

BTW Beatlebum if you're going to go to a highwing trainer for awhile BEFORE putting your mustang back inthe air . I highly recommend the Hobbico Nexstar. Its a RTF and its very very easy to fly . Lots of lift -plenty of power and tuff enough to take the occasional hard landing that comes along with learning to fly. It comes with "air brakes" attached under the wings (to help slow down) and it has wing droops for added lift and stability. Engine is an OS and it is already broke in . Once you become familiar with the plane and confident in your abilities , remove the brakes and the droops and the Nexstar is actually pretty fast, for a "trainer".
I'm not sure but I think the Nexstar comes with an AFS system which helps the plane return to straight and level should the pilot get in trouble , simply let go of the sticks and the planes rights istelf . I found the AFS system tended to fight me as I would try to turn . I soon turned it off and later removed it all togehter. The plane is easy enough to handle without the AFS. NOTE: If you remove the air brakes THEN you must remove the droops and vise versa . I leaned this the hard way.Remember to re trim if you remove theses items . You shouldn't have to make any HUGE adjustments . But its always good to check .
If you have Great Planes simulator the Nexstar is on your list of aircraft to fly AND its pretty true to life . I learned to fly mine during the winter and once summer showed up I was amazed how flying the REAL plane was just like the simulator( for the most part) and the simulator can save you BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ If you crash you just hit the "reset" button . LOL Gotta love that.

Just my two cents worth ............
Let me know what Horizon Hobby says

yeah im actually looking at a backup. I can fly the simulator really really well. and the flight i made with the stang was nice and easy. felt natural. I shipped it 2 day with ups with work only cost me 10 bucks to ship it that way so i figured might as well. SO they should get it thursday and then i just have to wait to hear from them.

You guys are talking about the Nextar. Very cool. I know that this is the Mustang PTS forum but I gotta say this. When my 10 year old son got out of school at 4:00 today, I had the truck loaded and ready to go to the feild. He asked my why I wasn't taking any of my planes and I told him that the mustang and the Extra 330 are staying home because this is your day for your Nextstar. Very cool he said. 65 degrees and no wind (when we showed up at the feild LOL). Well buddied up, I took the nextar off first, made sure that it was trimmed out and said "Ok, your plane." This was about his 15th flight on his Nextar (got it for his Bday last fall) and he flew in the pattern perfectly tonight and did a bunch of touch and goes. I finally let him land it. No assistance HE landed. OK, Next flight, same thing. Third flight he was doing the same thing and the wind came up to about 15mph. I landed it for him and it was a great evening. I then asked him if I could fly it and he said show me what this plane will do. So, I got ahold of it (by the way, it still has all of it's training stuff on it) and was doing small harriers in front of us saying see, it will slow down! I did about 10 really slow touch and goes in a pretty good breeze. THAT IS REALLY FUN!
The reason that I am telling you this is because short of the mustang PTS, the Nextstar is one really good bird. Stress free flying in almost any condition and it is a really tough plane. Also, we have Reflex XTR simulator 5.04 and my son is constantly on it. It makes a big difference no matter what you fly and the couple of hundred bucks you spend on it will more than make up for time loss in training and the expense of crashed planes not to mention the anxiety that accompanies all of it. My little son will probably solo next week at 10 years old because of it.
Oh, by the way the setup that I have on the Nextstar is a TT pro 46, futaba 4 channel computer radio and futaba standard servos. Do not use the AFS it is garbage especially when it is bright out or there is snow on the ground.
    Happy flying Yall,
    Jeff and Hunter

heck i might have to pick one up for my dad. He has always wanted to fly. We both race cars he even has a track at the farm haha. Btw if i lived there i could fly when ever nothing like 600 acres out your front door with no tree's and flat land.

Well I'm glad to see there are other people who enjoy the Nexstar.
Tonite was "flight nite" but only 5 members showed up , which is unbelievable because the weather was PERFECT.. Temp was 68 and almost no wind , not a cloud in the sky.The only thing that didn't work out tonite was my Instructor couldn't make it , so I was Not able to get the Mustang up for her Maiden flight . Maybe next time ..
I did about 4 or 5 flights with the Nexstar , nice easy flying , loops and rolles nothing real fancy , just enjoyed the evening . I guess summer is here , at last :P
