ah...a P51 should not have washout, when you take off the droops the plane will tip stall that is normal and expected for that type of plane and wing so leave the droops on until you are ready for tip stalls...also sounds to me that your wing is warped, which happens, it is wood, I've had my PTS for over 1 1/2 years, no problems at all and yes it tip stalls, like it is suppose to....take it up high, do a no power stall and watch it tip stall without the droops...with droops, it stalls easy, no tip stall...dead center...like a high wing trainer.

yes you are correct about the washout, but this model I have has negative wash out in one wing and a lot of positive washout in the other! There is a half inch difference between them. Not oonly that but when I first got this model the fuse was twisted real bad as well. Between the too problems the wing when mounted sat with one tip four inches higher than the other. Horizon has finally contacted me and looks as if they will replace.

Thank you Ozmacka I don't think I would have known to look for that . God Knows I've checked and re checked everything on this plane I can think of . I have 2 of these planes and I'm being kept pretty busy doing all the mods that are coming up on this thread. I reinforced the fuse last nite but I have NOT taken the muffler apart yet BECAUSE when I try to take it apart , I feel like I'm gonna break the screw . It so tight that it really feels like its gonna snap if I keep trying to turn it . Maybe I'll wait on this and see if it comes loose on its own , everybody says it will , so I'll wait and see .
    Thanks again for the explanation

    * Make sure you remove the nut on the back end 1st!

The 4" (approx.) bolt, screws into the back portion of the muffler(inside), then the nut is used as extra security.
To re-assemble, put the muffler together, insert the bolt & tighten, then add the nut at the back and tighten it.
Carefull with the oring, don't pinch it when putting back together. Don't loose the tiny little split washers, one at each end.
A drop of "blue" Loc-Tite always helps too.

If you take the nut off, you'll see that the muffler stays together.

Then unscrew the bolt from the front.

    Hope that makes sense?

THanks wild CCR. I'll try it again later on tonite . The weather here is SUPPOSED to be beautiful tomorrow . If my trainer can make it........MAYBE we can get one of these P-51s in the air .
IF I get the muffler apart , should I remove the baffle right away ? or maybe wait til I fly it a few times ... All training aids are on this plane.

I have been trying to get a hold of Horizon for the last week with no response. I called them once and wrote them twice.

    GRRRRR!

Anywho, on my first flight both of my wheel blocks gave way after a normal landing. I was trying to see what they would do for me on that. Now I read these latest posts and I too have been experiencing an extreme roll to the right. I have the droops on still if that matters. I have to use more than 50% trim to the left to stay level! I thought it was the droops and it would go away when I take them off.

Do I have a problem with my wings?

The PTS P51 was not made for arobatic stunts, but can do most stuff , but not as good as a plane made for arobatic , the full scale mustang was a war bird, and the PTS P51 flys mostly like one, I have one ever since it first came out.

Also, if you look at the underside of the wing, you will notice it flattens out toward the wingtip. This keeps it somewhat similar to conventional trainers, so tip stalls are only a faint portent of a true warbird's behavior in the stall.

This plane is great as a trainer and as an introduction to the higher performance planes with higher wing loading, but still apart from any plane with symmetric wing or more than 25oz/in wing load.

    Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would post my experience with this plane. I bought one a couple of months ago and finally had the chance to fly it this past weekend. I have an instructor who helped me with the set up and fine tuned it before he let me try to fly. Once he was happy with the set up he took it up and handed me the transmitter. I was so nervous I thought I was going to puke! I had no problem flying circuits and I found that it handled very much like the FS One sim. When I was done I handed the transmitter back and my instructor landed it for me. You couldn't knock the smile off my face with a brick! I got to fly it 3 more times and by the end I was switching the direction of my circuits and flying figure 8's, well they looked more like a 9 but close enough for me. As a total newbie to flying I have to say that practice on the Sim made a huge difference. My instructor was pretty happy with how fast I caught on and that he never had to take control from me. I love how this plane looks and flys and it drew quite a bit of attention from other flyer's. I have to say a big "Thanks" to Don my instructor for getting me in the air, I am totally hooked and can't wait until next weekend to do it again.
