I have one, and have three flights on it. After the first flight, we took off the speed breaks as it seemed a little sluggish. The second flight was perfect, flies like a dream and the landings are the easyest my trainer said he's ever seen. It just floats in with a little throttle, no flaps used as yet. One thing at a time. With the original setup 10-4 three blade it performed loopes and rolls easily. I've change the 10-4 three blade to a 11-6 three blade Master Aircrew which is quite a bit different prop design. Much narrower blade, but haven't flown it with this setup. Waiting for some good weather.

The weather was perfect tonite but my instructor didn't show so I flew the Nexstar and I had a problem with the engine quitting just after I landed its been doing this for the last couple weeks . I changed the glow plug and re adjusted the high end I noticed I'm getting some air in my fuel line -sooooooooo I either have a small pin hole in one of my lines orrrrrrrrrrrrrrr my fuel is foaming ( my tank is wrapped in foamjust as it came from Hobbico) oooooorrrrrrrrrrrr I'm sucking in some air at the connections for my inline fuel filter-oooooorrrrrrr I need to readjust the low end orrrrrrrrrrrrrr it could be something else ... LOL .... I'll take out the motor tomorrow nite and replace all the lines from the tank- recheck the tank to make sure the foam is in tact I think I'll take off the in line filter ( two less connections to worrry about ) and we'll see what happens .
The field had not been cut and the dandilions were about 1 ft tall which made take offs interesting . A couple of guys with war birds wouldn't even try. I don't know who's turn it was to cut but the ball kinda got dropped .- Needless to say the P-51 did not get into the air tonite maybe next week the weather for the rest of the week looks bad .

"Very first thing I did was glue my fingers together with CA, man I hate cutting the tip off a new bottle. "

I usually end up w/ half of whatever I'm working on, stuck to various parts of my body.

wldhair- check the line inside the tank too, it gets overlooked.

Still the 30mph+ winds around here, rain on the way again..grrrrrrr

STILL some snow on the mountians, end of May, very unusual.

    glasair72-
that may be a little too much prop (11x6x3) for the stock engine, most likely only turn in the 9000rpm range and
suck a lot of fuel. 11x6x2 APC ( 11,500rpm-ground ) seems to be the best all around. But give it a try! Just take care on
take off, make sure you have the speed up and nice steady shallow pull out to make sure she doesn't bog down on you.
I like a Graupner 10x6x3 also. (10,600rpm on the ground)
Not quite as peppy as the 11x6x2, top end almost as fast, takes longer to get there, but a little quieter, cuts fuel use in half.
Downside: the climb is not as good.
The 11x6x2 will climb forever at about 60 degree, the 10x6x3 will not, but it acts a little more scale like.

    What I've found:
11x6x2 = about 12 min at mostly full throttle
11x7x2= about 10 min at mostly full throttle
10x6x3= about 18 min at mostly full throttle
*stk engine-no baffle & flywheel removed.

    I usually bring both the 2 and 3 blades(&spinners) w/ me.
Some days are just need for speed & cloud punching.

    go away rain......

Ive even got CA on my lips and tooth.... DONT TRY THAT AT HOME!!!! STUPID MOVE!
The nozzle was cloged so I was squeezing it and like a total dumbace looked down the barrel

I fly my 11x7 for 22 minutes, and have maybe 3 minutes left of fuel, running wide open 3/4 of the time.... There are only 2 reasons to fly... poking holes in clouds, and breaking the sound barrier!!

Well, without the radio gear and motor here yet I did what I could with the rest of it. I got all the hinging done. One thing I did notice was the rudder had not been cut for hinges, easy enough to do myself with hobby knife so no big deal. I also removed the big "Q" on the tail and pan to eventually go with a little different scheme, but have not decided yet. Just don't want to be like every other H9 mustang at the field. Even the wife came by lastnight while I was working on it and said "It sure is pretty!" I was not exactly sure how to take that but I would assume she meant it in the "That is sure is pretty to be such a dang manly machine!" sort of way.

I am running a 10x7 master airscrew and love it. I am going to put a 10x8 on it to see what it does next time out. It is running flat out about 90mph right now. I will gladly give up some verticle for more high speed passes. this plane is so forgiving and easy to fly that I don't really freak out when I am running hot and low to the ground.
    Speaking of stupid injuries,
At my last job I was a technician and I did alot of soldering of small parts and such. I would get there in the morning and plug in my soldering iron and wait a few minutes over a bit of coffee. then to check if the iron was hot I would just simply raise it up toward my lips. Very sensetive part of the anatomy and If I could feel the heat then I knew it was working. I did that every day. well, one day I accidentally - well yall know what happened! Very good burn on my upper lip right in the middle. DDOHHHHH! I really got razzed by my co-workers over that one for weeks! Never did it again after that!

CA on a moist lip isnt too bad really.... it burns a little, but it really doesnt stick too well. But the tooth was bad. It felt like aluminum foil over a huge filling, adn then it wouldnt come off. I guess it soaked into the pores a little. It took probably 3 days to get it all off. I was REALLY lucky that I didnt squirt my eye

One question... What would be the best way for me to locate the centerline/thrust line on the firewall so that I can reposition the mount for the Saito? Is the "hole" in the firewall accurate enough to just bisect it to locate the center and then mark new location holes for the blind nuts?

If you are going to use the cowl after the instll, then the thrust line will have to be the center of the cowl after mounted. I would mount the engine in the mount with the proper spacing to the drive washer on the engine.... Its either 1.25 or 1.5 inches from the back of the mounts to the front of the crive washer. have someone or something hold the plane nose up, and set the mounted engine on the firewall. Then place the cowl in place lined up with its mount screws... I would screw in 2 screws a little just to make sure it doesnt move arund on you... Then set the drive washer in place and then the spinner backplate. now you can move the engine agound intill the spinner plate aligns with the cowl. You now have the engine thrust line set right, now you have to make sure that the engine hasnt rotated a little while you were movine it around... carefully remove the spiiner plate and look inside to make sure. If everything is good then carefully remove the cowl, (I had someone hold downward pressure on the engine shaft to hold it still just incase) and now you can mark the new hole locations.

Wiki; Could you explain the flywheel to me? I understand it's for balance, but it's the first engine I've seen with one. Tanks for your prop info. A lot depends on the mfg too. This 11/6/3 is a Master Airscrew and when I placed the blades on top of the other it was only about 3/16 larger at the tips, but the blade width is considerably narrower. Are you flying with the wing droops on? If not, what characteristics did you find when you took them off? Presently, the approac
