What a crappy night. At least you are bringing a plane home on one piece!

As far as chargers go, just make sure that you check the voltage before you fly, EVERY TIME. I do this because I am paranoid about loosing my planes. It does wonders. A few freinds of mine lost their planes due to battery failures in the past but if they were to check them before they set out, they would still have their planes.

Too bad about the stripped collar.

You could have the dubious pleasure of being like me, and after crashing and totaling two earlier planes, have AAAAAALLLLLLL the spare pieces parts you could ever need to fix little things that break at the field.

Or, you could save the $200 plus for the two ARF kits I bought, and buy the same amount of pieces parts at the LHS for say....$15.

Smart money is on the latter option....

You could have swapped the inside and outside collars for the remainder of the day. It wouldnt have been perfect, but the inner loose collar would have help the tire away from the gear wire enough for it to function. Always gotta think redneck!! Didnt even need duct tape this time

    dats it I give up...
Its June 5th......calling for SNOW at the 3,500-4,000 ft level
    pouring rain below that

Jeff, if your not using the ski's right now, can I borrow them ....
oh wait, you may need em still!

wld, better then, than on t/o or landing. whew....
if you have some extra fuel line, cram a piece over the end of the axle & a drop of ca.
Cut it flush w/ the end so it doesn't look too goofy.
Still use the the collars for sure. This just adds a little extra protection & will (hopefully) keep the wheel
on long enough to avoid a cartwheel. I do to all my gear, whenever there is enough axle poking out.
( I use a drop of solder when I can, but have to very careful with plastic wheels )
I don't trust set screws on anything. Some call them grub screws.

Got a call from Horizon today, so I figured I would forward the experience to show again how good they are to their customers. A few posts back I talked about my charger failing on me, and that I had a Spektrum receiver that went thru a bad crash, breaking the case, and bending the pins. OK, today I get a UPS package with a NEW charger replacing the failed one that I bought second hand. The phone call was telling me that I have a NEW receiver on its way to me to replace the broke one, they said it wasn't worth my paying to get it fixed. Remember all the damage to it was from MY stupid flying mistake, not the radio.

Anyway, Ive never seen a company back a product with so much enthusiasm. I truely hope this giving nature doesn't hurt them in the long run.

    little story to share
I called my "local" hobby shop today (30 miles away) and told them about my wheel collar being stripped out and I needed another one for my P-51 . UNfortunatley I had forgotton to bring the old one with me to work but I figured all he had to do was look it up on the website right ? My LHS guy said "don't worrry I carry then all" I told him I'd be there about 4 pm to pick them up and to MAKE SURE they were the right ones as I have a 50 mile drive back home. I got the infamous "NO PROBLEM" .
Are you seeing whats gonna happen here ? I was at the HS at 4pm and HS guy says his internet was down but he was SURE the size was 5/32> I assumed he was correct and made my big purchase of $1.07 and was on my way home . Got home had a quick supper and went downstairs to my shop to re do ALL the collars on BOTH Mustangs Guess what ?? they were the wrong size !!!! I needed 3/16 not 5/32 so now I can't do my project for the night . I call LHS and told him of his error there were no "gee I'm sorrys" or anything of that sort ( he obviously couldn't see the look on my face thru the phone) BUT he did say thet he'd mail me out the right size (3/16) first thing in the morning LOL I'm telling ya if you can't kinda laugh at the setbacks you'll never enjoy the achievements (wow that was deep)

Yeah I used fuel line on the Nexstar axles , seems to work well . I 've never had this happen before so I'll take your advice as the fuel line covers will be hidden inside the wheel cover .
I was also toying with the idea of just drilling a small hole thru the axle and just using a small cotter pin on the outside of the collar (all hidden inside the wheel cover) We'll see what happens .

I live about 40 miles from my LHS, and 26 from the field that I fly. If I make a trip, especially ate $3.69 a gallon for gas, youve got to believe Im going to fly ALL DAY! Unless I hit another plane, or something catastrophic like that. I take at lease 3 planes with me every trip, and at least a gallon of Nitro, and 1/2 gallon of gas. That equates to more hours of flying than hours of sunlight usually. I have bought 3 ARFs now, so I have a TON of extra small parts, but still trying to build up stock of larger stuff. Never know when you might need an extra servo, fuel line, TIRE (yes Ive lost one) elevator.... you name it, I want to have it. I try to keep all the trainer stuff with me too so I can help out the new guys, you know their going to break a prop from time to time. God knows I did!! And 2 toolboxes of screws, servo parts, and glues. # planes and all of my extra stuff takes up the entire bed of my truck, and the wings are in the back seat.
