Hey guys, got some questions on two older designs I had rat packed plans away for several years - both date to around 1980 vintage. Thanks to a recent divorce I finding a lot of toys stuffed away in boxes I forgot about and having a blast with:

First is a Hans & Hanno Prettner design called the Minari (M.A.N). Span = 56”, Length = 49 ½”, Wt. = 5.5 – 6 lbs., Power: Webra Speed .40 – .61, 6 ch. radio.

Second is The Saturn SE. by Ivan Kristensen. Span = 64”, Length = 51 5/8”, Power = .61 piped, Wt. = 8 lbs. 8 oz., 5 ch.

I’m planning building on these this winter (along with an Astro Hog off original ’58 MAN plans) and starting to make plans to build them. I don’t have the magazine articles anymore, but they are quite simple and self explanatory. I figure the Minari will be a better flyer than another Sig Kougar. For power I’m thinking of a Jett .50 on a pipe - since I’m not into 3D a .61 is out and the .50 should be enough to enter the ballistics arena.

The Saturn SE is going to be the replacement for the Flightglass Saturn I use to fly on a piped Webra Speed .61. Not sure on the power for this bird. Any recommendations for power? Also, I used to fly only Rhom retracts, what’s available today? I’m thinking about an air-up/spring-down system like spring air since I now fly off a 600’ X 50’ paved runway, and the grass area is rough enough the car guys would probably enjoy it – I rather have the gear just pop out if it looses air pressure instead of tearing up a plane ( I don’t mind reading the “Crash” forum, but don’t care to make postings there).

Has anybody built one of these?
Any clue as to the washout on the wing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Scott

You should be able to aquire the building articles from the original plan publisher as a reprint. Normally well worth the few dollars spent.

Thanks EXCAP32. I may have to do that sooner than later. My Astro Hog tossed a blade at 50 ft - fuse is in 2 pieces and the OS 61 SF Longstroke (destine for the Saturn SE) launched to over 250 ft (according to witnesses, all I really watched was the plane).

Any body have any suggestions on where to get that engine repaired. It wasn't running when it hit and the muffler took the impact when it landed on the centerline of the runway. The front muffler boss broke out, but it does turn through smoothly. Still has the remainder of the prop attached along with the spinner.

Contact Rich Lagrange at the AMA Museum. He can look up, search, and copy almost any published piece for you. I will be contacting him for a artical here in the near future for a plane that I am thinking of building from scratch. There is a small fee for this service, but worth every penny. This should be his e-mail.

As far as the Engine goes...... Contact Bax in the OS engine support forum here:

Very nice guy!!!!! Always willing to help out. From the way it sounds though.... you might of bent the crank or just knocked the engine casing out of wack. Hard to say what is good/not good until it is taken apart.

Thanks for the info impactiq. I'm hoping it's just the case since then engine wasn't running during the fall and the muffler seems to have take the impact, but I do have concerns with the engine running at ful throttle for several seconds with just one blade on it.
