Here is my variation of a sliding canopy. Got the design from wolfs video. (I think it was wolf) I still have the canopy framing to make from lt ply. One of the hardest parts to do I am thinking.

The original design was a manual canopy. It would be so easy to make this automated it seems a shame not to. With that thought in mind what are the opinoins from pneumatic to electric?

here is my progress

I used copper rivets and a 1/4" brass strip for the post and rail on the canopy. I took the copper rivets and ground them down with a dremel to make the posts and soldered them to the flat brass strip. I removed more than half of the original rivet material from the final product.

I used brass square tubing for the tracks. I used a dremel to cut the slot for the track.

I have to admit that I have not read through the thread from front to back so this may be a question that has been covered. If so please point me in the right direction. If not some help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone mounted Sierra retracts and if so are their mods that need to be made during wing construction? I have not started the wing yet so would like to be upfront as I begin that part of the build.

Thanks a bunch
Lynn

George is right, they could be lighter. Can you do that okay? The fact that you posted them for us to see was GREAT! You had some good ideas and you did some very good work. Thanks again for the pics.

Finally got time to throw my 2 cents worth in. Almost finished with paint. Will have Robart retracts & wheels, pnuematic canopy, gear doors, Saito 450 radial & Solo 3 blade. Hope have it ready to test by April 1. Learned a tremendous amount from this thread.

Thanks to everyone that shared info.

Dave

I can work on the picture quality. If I use flash it is to bright and not even viewable. That is why I used the no flash pics. Unfourtunatly it is my workshop and not a photo studio.

Turn the ISO (speed) of your film (digital i hope) up to 400 or higher (watch for excessive grain in higher ISO's).

Part time photog, full time plane nut!

Cheers and keep up the good work guys!

Hi Timothy,

That canopy looks mighty fine. Did you make it manual or powered? Exactly where on the Corsair does the dog go?
