ok just got my maiden done and everything went perfect.......i have to tell you, i fly turbine jets and this was my first giant scale warbird, and what can i say UNREAL, im looking for my second project
the plane flew like it was on rails and at 33 lb plus 32 oz of fuel the DA 85 proving to be exelent choice(never push the throttle over 3/4 )

PS.. the custom muffler sound was sooooooo cool

Hello JETS,
Two questions:
1.) When did you get a custom Keleo exhaust for the DA85? The last time I asked (a few years ago), they were not going to make anymore custom units.
2.) How much time with a 32 oz. tank give you on a DA85?

Thanks!
Scott

Robart had their electrics for the top flite GS corsair at Toledo, do not know when they will be out though. Maybe soon since the corsair arf is slated for release.

No kidding! Its amazing what a spray can of flat black can do to improve the looks of a prop!

Looks like you need more flap for landing!

I'm looking forward to the rain stopping here so I can fly mine!
Here's my prop after I painted it black.
The full flap landing was in a respectable wind.

Nice flights guys,
I see Topflite has the Giant Corsair ARF out and available now.
It is 750.00 here in Canada.
I like the plug in wings.

I have the Top Flite Giant Scale Corsair kit, retracts & fiberglass cowl that I was going to make as my next plane. I picked up a new Brison 3.2 (52.32cc) engine at a swap meet for a good price and intended to use it in this plane. The Brison is 4.4lbs with muffler & electronics. The data sheet that came with the engne says the thrust is 26lbs and can use the following props 20x10, 20x12 or 22x8. Do you think this is a good engine for this plane? I'm concerned about having to add a lot of weigh to the nose to get the plane to balance on the proper CG location.

Other options are I could sell the Brison and get a G62 or I could sell the Corsair stuff and get one of the other TF GS kits if one of those don't need as much weigh on the nose to get the CG correct.

I don't know if anyone has them is stock yet but they will bring it in for you until such time that the stores recieve their orders.
I'm pretty dissapointed with this ARF and will continue to build the kit.
I think they would have been better off to spendd the money and time in revamping the kit and including such changes as a removable wing and other scale features.
Everyone here on the site has pretty much done the homework for them so it sure wouldn't have been to difficult for them to make the changes.
Perhaps they still will.
But in the meantime I will not be buying this ARF.

Randy,

Sounds like maybe you have had the opportunity to actually view the new TF ARF in person. Could you share with us what some of your disappointments are, which might sway some of us from making the purchase.

Thanks

John

I've been chatting with Mitch from 'Down and Locked' and he tells me the Robart #148 Electric Gear should be available by mid-June. Otherwise if you already have the Robart #148 Corsair Gear you can send them to 'Down and Locked' for electric conversion!
Here's a video from last year:
http://youtu.be/n_lH7MzJ_oY

I'm going to get a set of mine converted!

Hi Gary. I have not seen the plane in person but am going by the Instruction manual and the information and pictures within it.
I really like the 3 peice wing. That is one thing that people like my self with small vehicles will like but when you really take a good close look at some of the pictures you will see the poor quality of some of the parts.

Perhaps they were rushed when they put it together but when you look at other manufactures and the ARFS that they put out . This Corsair falls  behind what I expected from a Quality Company like Topflite.
I like thier kits and even though there have been issues with those. It is up to the builder to go as far as he wants to go to get the look he is after.
But when you buy an ARF I would think a person would expect to recieve something that had some great scale features built in to it for $750.00.

I don't know if this has something to do with them being taken over by HOBBICO but overall I just see a cheaply put together plane and a high price-tag.
There are areas like the trailing edges of the wing where they could have tailered it to except and hide the gap in flaps and ailerons.

They could have gone to a better hinge for the flaps to make them more scale also. THey know how dificult that area has been with builders.

They went through the trouble of making scale doors for the front gear but wouldn't  take the time to show folks how to install them. If you look at the gear bay area it;s self it looks like a cheap peice of plastic was just slaped in there.
There are other things also but I would really have to have the kit in front of me to be able to get a better look at them.

I'd be more than happy to do a fair review of the model but from what I have seen so far I won't be buying it.
I know I sound like a Topflite Basher but  really I'm not. I just expected a fantastic scale Corsair.
